Hmm, again ur in the process of applying to uni arnt u? Well i dont know how u can know this? I researched my uni sooo much, long before any of my friends and visited them all a lot. I knew it was exactly what i wanted to do and where i wanted to go. In actual fact the people who seem to get on better are the ones who literally did no research and just went sumwhere that offered their course. So no amount of research will help you when u get here, it cant prepare u for the reality of the uni and the course.

Well it can, though in your case it didnt. I wasnt saying anything about, but you twisted An Siarach's words to say 'hey i dont really want to go but ill just waste loads of money and go anyway and drop out', which isn't what he said. I was explaining that not everyone takes the same ammount of care over their university choices as other.

Is that ok?

I am dropping out of nottingham uni at the end of term. It would have been sooner but ive been having trouble with accomodation fess, i.e. they wanted me to pay for the whole year, so i wanted to get that sorted before i leave.
Would it be a good idea to get a reference from my old school soon after i get back even though i dont intend on going back to uni any time soon?

That's true, I have a friend who just picked universities out of the air (asked me which ones I was applying for and looked them up to see if they did his course, thought of random places in the country and found out if they had a Uni). However, he's loving it.
I have another friend who visited every Uni she was thinking of going to, picked one, and ended up dropping out because she had no friends and was miserable. It's hard to find out that you won't have any friends from a visit or the prospectus.
She's now at home, and is mostly embarassed by the fact that she dropped out, and hates seeing old teachers etc. who ask how she's getting on at Uni.

Can you not apply to other universities for your 2nd year if you hate it so much?

I've looked around but as my course is super specific there aren't any other unis that do it...so if I was to decide "ewww I can't take it anymore" I'd have to drop out (and be shot for going AWOL by Iscariot lol) and start a different course somewhere else. So I'm kinda stuck really...like the course, hate the place.

C'est la vie I guess!
Im finding it hard because I loved the actual uni I was at and so far I havent found one that comes even close to comparing :frown:. If only their courses were better.....
I guess I better join the forum, *rolls eyes* ...hmmm, I've just dropped out, and it reply to Jaydoh's reply - Why shouldn't we drop out? I'm leaving because I'm so unhappy there it's making me ill - is that not a good enough reason? hmm anyway, I feel like a complete failure, my parents weren't keen to start with, but they're more understnading now and are supportive as long as I get a full time job, pay a bit of rent to them, and don't laze about like a tax dodging lazy-a*se student-scum!! I have every intention on starting again in Sept, somewhere else, and this time i'll look better into the course description (Performing Arts is so varied among different unis) GAH! Anyway, I do feel pretty awful about dropping out, but I have to :frown:

hey! has anyone been really worried about how uni has made u feel!! i was really confident and happy before i went, i had loads of motivation and i was really looking forward to uni improving that even further! BUT... uni has made me more and more self concious! i had the best first few weeks of going out and meeting people but now its all crashed. iv not really met a group of people i feel i really click with, i have a lot of general friends i socialise with, but they're not like the group of friends i really see myself being happy with!!. Also i really hate where i am!! i really do hate it and sitting back here at home, thinking of going back is really scaring me! i hate what its done to me, the thought of going out really makes me anious when that was never the case before! its really hit my self confidence!!!

I commend all of you for dropping out of a course if you feel it isn't right for you. I myself, wasn't strong enough to do that in first year when the uni and the course both weren't right as I was too worried what family and friends would think. You can evaluate what you didn't like and come back a wiser person when going back to university again.

sometimes the reality is v diffferent to what u imagine or expect it to be like, so i dont agreee with u that ppl shouldnt drop out. im doing a post grad and im not going back after xmas, even though i spent a year and half planning and organising and working towards this course ans career, i have realised i made a mistake and its not right for me, its not been an easy decision to make , and its something iv struggled with since sept. i dont know what my next move will be now, but i do know that dropping out is right for me. when i was on my undergrad course loads of ppl drop out esp in 1st year, i didnt understand why they would want do that then, but now im in that situation, everyone is allowed to make mistakes and change their mind
