Hi I am considering firming Exeter (penryn campus) I have been around an offer holder day and have seen inside the Glasney accommodation but I haven't seen the sidings whats the key differences between them I believe the Sidings is bit further from the main campus buildings but apart from that I don't know too much else? any help would be appreciated

Hi there @user123456324

I study at the Streatham campus in Exeter, so don't have any personal experience of the Penryn accommodation! I would recommend taking a look at the web pages for both accommodations, which have info about the facilities at each, the locations, room types, and costs. If you scroll to the bottom there is also a virtual tour!

Websites can be found here:
Glasney - https://fxplus.ac.uk/accommodation/halls-of-residence/glasney-student-village/
Sidings - https://fxplus.ac.uk/accommodation/halls-of-residence/the-sidings/

Hope this helped, please let me know if you have any more questions and I or one of the other ambassadors will do our best to answer them

hi, I firmed exeter yesterday and I'm still waiting for a confirmation email of this from exeter so I can apply for accommodation, how long does this take? Should I get in touch with someone if it doesn't come through soon?
I didn't select quiet accommodation in the end because my parents thought it was reserved for people who would struggle with loud noises - however I'm not really a party every day type so I'm a bit worried that I'll end up in a situation I don't like?

Hi everyone

Just thought I'd post quickly about my experience of accommodation at Exeter, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask!

In my first year I lived in halls allocated by the university. I was actually one of the very few unlucky people who didn't get given any of the residences I put as my preferences, but ended up in Point Exe. The first thing I will say is that the university do a really good job of trying to put you somewhere you will be happy and comfortable even if you don't get one of your preferences. For example, my preferences were all for en-suite rooms and I did still get an en-suite room, just in a different residence! Point Exe is self catered and off campus. It is about a 20 minute walk to the university but the uni run free mini buses to campus every morning and evening so I didn't have to walk up the hill too often! I shared a flat with 4 others, and we had a huge kitchen/lounge area we could socialise in.

In my second and third years I lived in privately rented accommodation off campus. I lived in different houses each year but was never more than 20 minutes from both the city centre or uni. One of the things I love about Exeter is that pretty much everything is always within walking distance, so I never had to get public transport to university. Both years I lived with the same group of friends and in total there were 4 of us sharing. In second year we shared one bathroom and decided to move for third year to a house with 2 bathrooms (for a similar price) which felt like such a luxury! In both these houses we sorted and paid the bills ourselves on top of rent, which I found very manageable.

I'm now in my fourth year and back in student halls. I'm living in Northernhay house (right by the city centre!) which my friends and I booked a 6 person flat in (not done through the university). We share 2 bathrooms between the 6 of us and have had no issues. The location is great and the bills are included in the rent price which we have found very helpful given the cost of living increase this year.

If you're starting to look at accommodation, I'd recommend taking a look at the university accommodation website which had loads of info about each university run residence as well as advice for moving off campus! https://www.exeter.ac.uk/accommodation/

I hope this was helpful, if anyone has any questions feel free to reply and I or one of the other ambassadors will do our best to answer them

Hi may I ask why didn’t you get your preferred residences? Did you apply to all competitive ones?

Hey there! I can understand the concern, but I wouldn't get too worried as it's quite unlikely you'll be in a flat where there are parties happening every day because whilst there are flat-parties, if things get too loud and out of control the accommodation staff do pop round and request for noise to be kept down, plus everyone is ultimately at university to get an education, so wouldn't be regularly partying all days of the week since they'd have classes and work to be doing! Saying this, sometime there are flats which do party harder, but if you ever find yourself in a situation you aren't comfortable with there are a number of ways to get support, including through the accommodation teams and through the Student Union, and it's not uncommon for people to successfully move flats to somewhere they are more comfortable. I hope this helps!

Hi, I am a PG with my course mainly based at the St. Luke's campus. I would like to know if it would be better to live near St. Luke's or Streatham? I've heard there are better facilities and a better overall experience in accommodations near the Streatham campus, but I am a bit worried about the transportation. Thanks a lot for your help!
For those who've already applied for accommodation for 2023 entry:

1. How many choices can be selected ?

2. Can you select multiple choices in the same residence; e.g. Standard and En-Suite, as 2 separate choices ?
Hi everyone! If you are looking to move to Exeter in September, remember that accommodation applications are open now. It is worth taking time to look at different accommodations and thinking about what’s best for you if you’re a social person or if you prefer a quiet environment; if you’d prefer to live with mixed or the same gender; there’s a good fit for everyone. I am in halls currently and I’m glad I took the time to choose what was right for me living with the right people really does make all the difference!

If you have any questions about accommodation feel free to ask! I would be happy to answer

Completely doubt this, accomodation staff have never been around to my accomodation, and I've heard parties almost every night, inside and outside my accomodation. If you want quiet accomodation, looks like you do need to directly apply to it.
(I am typing this as a loud group of people are batting cricket balls directly at my window on the bottom floor of Birks Grange for the 4th day running.)

Hey there, really sorry to hear of your experience! I trust you've tried to contact the accommodation team with your concerns? Perhaps you could be fast-tracked if you also raised your concerns with wellbeing services and/or the SU. I'm just writing based on my experience as a student in my fifth year at Exeter, but of course my experience isn't representative of every students. I really hope your situation improves soon!

How come you know this already ? Do you have an unconditional offer ?

Their accommodation website says:

"If your offer status is Unconditional Firm (UF) prior to August your application will be processed from May onwards and an accommodation offer and contract will be sent to you between July and early September.

If your offer status becomes UF in August we will send you an accommodation offer and contract by early September"

I'm looking to apply for my accommodation next month and keen on East Park - can anyone advise about the layout of the standard (shared bathroom) accommodation. Are the rest of the spaces the same as the ensuite rooms? Do you share with the same person for the whole year?
