Hi cs5862. So sorry, it's gutting isn't it? Yeah I'm eagerly waiting the feedback too.
Today I've added two choices on GTTR for Liverpool Hope. Let's see if fate is going to take it's course. I never put Hope as a choice originally as I have a 2:2, but thought I'd give it a go. Spoke to Edge Hill today (where I studied my BA honours 15 years ago) and I was borderline for a 2:1. It's a shame that all Hope will see on my app form is 2:2!

Oh well such is life!

Good luck guys.

I've just received my email off gttr (8pm) and checked my gttr. I am absolutley gutted! Never got on :frown: Hopefully hope will accept me! They literally left it till the end of the 20th day!

Jenny G I thought you were going to get on tbh. Gutted for you. On the positive side they must have been really considering you to have took so much time.

I received feedback today, all in all not too depressing. Subjects ok (high in Eng and Science, average in Maths and IT.) Only constructive thing I can do is gain more experience in classrooms. (Had appx 4weeks in the past eighteen months)

At interview I was very conscious that lots of the candidates were working in schools already and that my experience just wasn't enough to compete. Some were on their second and third attempts.

I'm waiting on a response from Hope too-good luck.

I've had lots of experience working in primary and didn't get on at Edge Hill, plus the feedback was very vague, so no idea what they look for! If you get an interview at Hope it is a much nicer experience - they're not so interested in ticking boxes, more in getting to know the person. It's not a whole-day affair either - starts at 3pm! You get a short talk on the course, then 20 mins to complete a page with a passage, on which you have to underline incorrectly spelled words and put the correct spelling above. Also you get another page of text to read and you have to pick out salient points and relate it to your own school experience - mainly to see how you write I think. It's not hard but do the spellings first as I didn't and had to rush at end! You're then taken in groups of 5-7 people and you each have to read a passage from a children's book you've chosen and brought and explain the age/key stage it's aimed at and why you chose it. Some people used props for the KS1 books like fluffy toys etc. Think it's to see how engaging/expressive you can be. After that, they have about 4 questions on a piece of paper but no'one has a one-to-one, you talk and answer in the group, so it's very relaxed. Things like 'What makes a good teacher', 'What do you know about safeguarding' 'What is your area of specialism and why?' but these can change. As long as you come across as enthusiastic and listen to others as well as articulately getting your points across, you'l be fine! Good luck with Hope

I only got offered an interview on the 4th of January and it's not until 7th March!! What does this mean? Anyone else this late? Also anyone who had already been through the interview got any advice? I'm unsure on what to expect etc and reading through some of these posts it doesn't sound like much fun!!

Hi
I also have really late interview date, 21st March!
Sorry to all the people who never got on, I know how gutting it is as already been through this once before, hoping im second time lucky!
Worrying because the interview is so late but its my own fault I had to wait for my science results to come back in.
Any advice would be greatly recieved?
Thanks

Advice I would give to people is;
- Make sure you reflect on your experience well throughout the day! This is the area which probably let me down (according to my feedback).
- The test results do not sway the decisions of the sway the decisions of the tutors as much as you think they will do. I got an A in maths, B in Eng and ICT and C in Science (said my science wasn't good enough) yet I know people have got in with C's and D's.
Just go in confidently and you should be ok (even though I thought I did :P)

Hi

Is there anyone who had an interview day on the 8th of Feb? I still haven't heard back, started to think I am deffo going to be rejected. I found the overall day quite difficult and don't think I 'shone' in my interview, I babbled alot and didn't really feel like 5 mins was enough time to get across my passion for teaching. I work as a one to one teaching assistant and put in an extra reference from my class teacher but no idea if it will even get read or make any difference.

One thing I would say is really really revise well for the tests, up to ks3. I see English as my specialism and found it the trickiest, not knowing exactly what all 44 phonemes are etc. So although they say to ks3, make sure you know the basics of things like phonics. Although I have to say I found the science and ict very easy.
For those who have heard back, did you hear first through letter or gttr? I rang Edge Hill yesterday and they said I should hear back this week. I just want to know either way, so if it's bad news it can go to my second choice asap!

hi,

I had my interview on the 8th Feb aswell and haven't heard back either. What did they say to you when you rang them? If they said this week surely they mean tomorrow as I doubt they would send a reply on the weekend. I just want to find out now how I did, the wait is very stressful, I would rather just know if I have been unsuccessful. Judging by the standards of the candidates that were there I do not hold high hopes of obtaining a place. We will just have to wait and see! where were you sat in the room? and if you could let me know about what edge hill said re replies that would be fantastic!

xx

hi rolo1991

I was sat in the middle table at the back of the room, there were 5 girls on the table (including me) and one guy. When I rang them they just said that they hadn't received a decision yet and when they did it would go straight up on gttr :frown: Tbh they probably get phonecalls all the time asking when people will hear back. I agree it is really stressful waiting for the result, I've not had a very good week just thinking about it! Where is your second choice? Mine's Hope. Let me know how you get on

Hi there,

Your comments about the English assessment seem to echo everyone else on here - it's the hardest part -and like you I consider it (or did do) my strongest subject. Any further insight into what the English aspect entailed and how knowing the 44 phonemes fits in would be so very much appreciated. I have my interview next week and have found English (and the 20min essay)to be the most difficult one to prepare for as the going off the info provided I've been thinking what can I do until I see the text?

I was on the middle front table, in the red blouse with blonde hair.I had too ask for an early 1 one 1 as I had an exam the same day. I hope we here on monday, this waiting is killing me. What do you think the chances of that are haha. xxx
Reply 192
Did you have short blonde hair, in a bob? I think I remember you....

Just checked my track again, nothing, grr! If they are going to reject me then I think it's quite mean to leave me waiting for so long :frown:

Hi Finchley,

Yes it certainly is, I am so relieved. It is a horrible and stressful wait, Edge Hill are quite disorganised about the whole thing.

Dont worry about the interview, it is difficult, but if you give it 100% you will be fine! I got a B C C C D on my tests and they accepted me on the premise that I did very well in my interview and group tasks so I think if you really shine in those areas you will be fine.

The essay is fine, we were asked about teaching assistants, but it could be on anything. Creative curriculum, current educational initiatives ect. I would suggest reading around all those things as it really helps, even if not asked on the essay question I discussed something I saw on the news in my interview.

The one on one is very short, but you just have to show your personality. If your a friendly and warm person you will be great. Make sure you perform in the group tasks, get in any buzz words that they are listening out for but don't overshadow anyone or talk over. Teachers have to be team players after all.

Good luck and make sure you revise for those tests. But I am living proof that if you fail your science ( embarrassing as I got an A at GCSE) they will want you regardless if your passionate and enthusiastic.

All the best! and good luck!!

Ok so, one of the questions was how many phonemes are there in the word 'writing'? The answer is 5 but it took me a while to work out as I wasn't too sure of what all the diff phonemes are (the funny thing is I do now as I am currently teaching phase 3 of letters + sounds but hey ho). My advice would be learn everything to ks3 but make sure you know the basis of ks1 as well!
