Year Abroad Costs - Japan

Anyone's input here is appreciated, but I'm looking to find out the costs of living abroad, specifically Japan, as it's specified as part of my uni course.

I know tuition fee's are £600, but I know little else. Anything will be greatly appreciated.

Someone I met who had just come back from his 3rd year abroad at Tokyo said it cost him about 500'ish a month. Not sure if Edinburgh University subsidized anything or not for him though.

Depends where in Japan you're staying really...Also of course costs would vary depending on the quality of living you'd want...

It depends HOW you live when you are there. If you want a standard western sized flat and to eat out every other day, then it will cost a fare bit. If you only need a small place as a student, and you cook your own meals, shop at 100yen shops ect you can keep the cost down quite a bit.

Of course. I'm going to SOAS and I could spend a rediculous amount each week quite easily, being in London an' all, but you can control your spending.

I'm really curious about accomodation costs too.
