Not entirely but your senior tutor (or whoever is writing your reference) will look at those and compile an overall reference.

Hi everyone. I am on a gap year currently. I had 3 questions which I have been asking to over 10 people but nobody has replied!

1. How different is the personal statement of a gap year student?
2. How does the reference letter change?
3. Is there anything in particular the unis expect from gap year students?

Someone, anyone pls help me out here  thanks!

Hi I've just finished a gap year and I'm about to start studying dentistry at Dundee uni in September! The statement doesn't differ much just talk a bit about what you plan to do for example do volunteer work, gain more experience travel etc and just include everything else you'd normally talk about in a statement! Don't get too hung up over it unis quite often prefer people who have been on gap years as they've had that extra year to mature and also they're obviously committed to studying if they've applied evem after taking a year break! Good luck and enjoy your gap year!! I kind of wish I was doing mine again! Anymore questions feel free to contact me

How's everyone feeling about A level results day, for those that need AAA to meet their offers??? Nervous/confident/scared?
Good luck to all 2013 applicants! I'm in my final year at Kings and its been the best decision I've ever made! So far I've had such an immense journey! Make sure you do plenty of work experience so you know what you're getting yourself into, and try to get some work experience in a teaching hospital too so you can see what dental students get up to. Extracurricular activities are also important. Also make sure you research the courses you will be applying for as these can vary from institute to institute, ideally go to the open days! Good luck everyone!

thankyou so much that was really helpful
Hi, I'm going to be applying for dentistry in October this year. I didn't do particularly well with my GCSE's - I got 4 A's , 4 B's and 1 C and I just got my AS results yesterday - AAAB. Which uni's will I have a good chance of getting into with these results? And would I still have a chance of getting into King's?

I got A's in biology, chemistry, physics and maths, B's in english literature, english language, French and religious studies and my C was in art

Does anyone know, if I repeated my fifth year, because for dentistry you need AAAAB in one sitting by the end of S5, and I only got BBBBC in S5, if I repeated my fifth year at college would I be accepted into dentistry? Basically there are special colleges which you pay so you can repeat your fifth year, does anyone know anything about these either? Does anyone know of any colleges that do this?

Hello everyone!
I got AAA at AS level in biology, chemistry and psychology and a pass in the Welsh Bacc. I also got 6 A*s and 4 As at GCSE.
I want to apply to Manchester, Cardiff, Liverpool and unsure about the fourth Uni to do dentistry in October 2013.

Do you think I should bother applying to Manchester because on their website it says you need at least a B in a fourth AS level?
Also, how much work experience do people do before applying to do dentistry? I haven't done any as I only decided last week after getting my results that I want to do dentistry. However I have done 2 weeks work experience in a hospital, worked on a horse livery yard and shadowed a vet.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Why don't you call them and ask?? In fact, why don't you call all the universities and ask them whether they would consider your application or not? I've had 14 weeks worth work experience in various dental settings, eg. in labs, hospitals, specialist dentists, GDPs. In terms of voluntary work, why don't you volunteer in an area where it involves humans, such as care homes, working with disabled children etc.? Hope this helps.

Hi Guys, can someone please please tell me what liverpool specifically look at when shortlisting for interview? Thanks a lot
On the website it says "emphasis" on personal statement. I've done 5 weeks but in my actual personal statement, only spent 200 words talking about it. The rest is about stuff ive in
done in dentistry (articles etc). Can someone please help
