Watching the most truly horrifyingly disturbing film of all time in the library. If I had my way, I would never watch it again, but unfortunately it is very useful for one of my topics so I have to. It is very disturbing and I have been informed that I am making a scene with my twisted facial expressions.

Yay for revision. Yay for doing topics called 'War and Trauma' and 'Violence and Mourning' in two separate papers. Yay for making my work exciting and fun and amazing.

What on earth is the film?

Meanwhile, I'm updating my revision notes to incorporate the latest cases by skimming the index of my textbook to see which are from 2007-2012. I've found 60 already out of 26 pages (with an average of 30 per page, so not that many overall!). 9 pages to go. I swear the author's being paid by the footnote...

Ouch, I wimped out of watching gory and violent films for my dissertation (although my supervisor wanted me to...). And I managed to study Latin American dictators in all of my scheduled papers this year :s-smilie:

And 2 days...argghhh.

It's called Come and See. It is, at least, very good. It's just also making me want to simultaneously cry and vomit. It's not even particularly graphic (compared to Night and Fog, which is a half hour film incorporating a lot of Holocaust footage that I watched earlier). It's just that the way it is made is very discomfiting, which of course makes it excellent to write about.

That sounds even less fun than what I'm doing :p:

I gave up when I read the CUSU bulletin. I've just done the emotion recognition test and achieved a respectable 53/60, so I'm fairly happy considering I thought I was pretty poor at distinguishing between facial expressions. :p:

*Puts kettle on and goes back to work*

(At least my back's to my window, so I don't feel tired because I haven't seen that it's dark outside!)

I got 52! Thought I was failing at distinguishing between disgust, fear, surprise and anger but apparently not!

I can indeed confirm that the Ben and Jerry's Core flavours are good, even if I did have to pay for them. Unfortunately, they are no longer on half price as of this evening - they'd already changed the price tickets by the time I'd got there (though thankfully not the price).

Ben and Jerry's, you owe me a second crate of ice cream.

As for the stress - I have no idea how I'm going to get through the remaining 130-odd lectures and do past paper questions and do reading in the last two weeks. Everybody panic. Unless you're panicking about your own exams, but if you aren't, maybe you could share my panic? Ta muchly.

I got perfect 10s on fear and happiness. I guess they're the most commonly seen emotions in exam term...

Snap!! Then 9s on surprise and sadness, 8 on disgust and 6 on anger - clearly people don't get angry with me very often :h:

I think it's more that you don't see the faces of TSR users when they call you a "dirty...mod" (seriously, don't people have better things to do than create a dupe and post inflammatory stuff?). :p:

That thread's in the bin, how can you see it?

You wouldn't believe the amount of inflammatory crap that we get. Some people have far too much rage!

I saw it before and reported it, so the link was still in my browser history. (How did you manage to quote my deleted post? If you notice, I removed the "homo" in my second version so I wouldn't get negged by people who aren't in on the joke.)

Really? That bad? It must be pretty mind-numbing to have the same "debates" cropping up again and again - I'd just merge each topic into a massive incoherent thread and let the trolls thrash it out.

(What kind of "inflammatory crap" do you get? Is there much in terms of offensive images (porn, gore etc.) from people looking for permabans? That all seems pretty rare overall...)

EDIT: Just realised that this is the Exam Stress Thread. Don't feel obliged to reply if you think this is straying off-topic.

To bring it closer to being back on track, I'll post one of my latest finds. I'd say it's fairly apt:

Probably quoted it before you deleted! There's just a lot of random lashing out. People get angry. Not usually directed at me though

I guess this must be one of the risks of modding a forum used by a large group of 13-15 year olds, some immature adults and a handful of stressed, over-caffeinated Cambridge students who know how to curse creatively.

I can't say I envy you that job. It always shocks me how angry people will get over imaginary internet points.

I actually really like modding  The majority of people are perfectly civil and nice, there are just a few exceptions, and even then most of the outbursts are born of frustration and miscommunication. Can't recall ever being creatively cursed at by an over-caffeinated Cambridge student but if you want to be the first then please be my guest :p:

Anyway, it is a fun job and a welcome break from revision! I should probably ban myself going into these exams but I feel like I'll need something in my day that I'm not actually failing at :p:

(Rather scared about my exam on Friday :frown:)

I can panic for you

I got 49 :o: 10 on surprise, 6 on fear and disgust, 9 on everything else. I tended to assume that everything was either surprise or disgust, but picked up on my trend on the latter too early, so chose anger when it should have been disgust instead a few times.

Mmm, I'd imagine that it'd involve more direct contact with users than my job as a Forum Assistant.

[Insert pun about my job entailing "sweet FA"]*

*Actually goes back to work :work:*

*Yes, I made this post with the sole purpose of trying (and failing) to make such a joke... :getmecoat:

PRSOM. Now go to bed before you start making more revision insanity induced puns :p:

That's good to hear. Looking at the front page it's difficult to imagine the job of a mod being particularly fun (some kind of cesspool metaphor comes to mind) but I imagine if you stay reasonably within the Oxbridge bubble things aren't too bad.

As for the exam on Friday, I'm going to have to Reverse Gandalf you, as I'm having to do to all my medic and vet friends (despite the fact that it either sounds like a sex position or a cocktail at a dubious Lord of the Rings themed bar). YOU SHALL PASS. That is all.

Thank you, that's very kind - though I doubt having people to panic for me would actually help, since there'd just be two of us panicking. Three, if you count my mother, who is doing enough panicking for the lot of us, though more about my mental state than the exams!

I quite liked the sweet FA joke... (EDIT: Alas, PRSOM. Clearly you're just too good at this.)

The fact that we're all still up and "working" at 1.30am should probably be a cause for concern, shouldn't it?

I feel like my project report has completely taken over my life. Myself and a friend went over each other's reports yesterday (they are each 50 pages long, so this took most of the day). We then spent 8 hours going through them with each other today, each of us ripping the other to shreds. After a shattering day, what I do? Grab some dinner and immediately start on corrections. I'm about a quarter of the way through and I can't imagine myself stopping until I'm done. Then I need to work out my schedule for tomorrow (making better graphs), such that I can get that done in the morning so that I can do a proof draft in the afternoon. Then on Thursday I want to write my abstract and do another proof and then I'm going away for three days over the weekend. Then there is three days to proof until handin.

I think that I am going to find it very difficult to adapt to being away from Cambridge this weekend. By that time I will have spent 3 weeks doing pretty much nothing aside from this and Burnt By the Sun (and even then I was doing this in between cues).

I saw you doing this... any chance you could proof read my report... looks like you are going for a distinction lol!

Well it looks like I need at least a merit to get my MEng... plus I've worked hard on this project, I feel like I deserve to get a distinction. So yes, I'm going for it, whether I'll get there is another matter!

I'd love to proof yours, but I genuinely don't think that I'll have time. It took a whole day to do R's and I don't have that sort of time left. Sorry :frown:

(just stopped work for the day at 0315)
