Hate to break it to you, but you are doing it wrong. So so wrong, it's like wearing navy and black or (though not as bad) green and red.

Nothing wrong with green and red (if you do it properly). Fashion isn't about 'right' or 'wrong'. Just wear what you feel comfortable in and what you personally like.

What on earth are you on about? Brown and black go with practically anything...
I'm having a bit of a clearout, and am contemplating getting rid of this jacket I bought two years ago.

At the time I liked it, but I know feel that it looks quite tacky and chavvy. What do you lot think?

I think you hit the nail on the head.

You'll look like an elf/christmas tree, dunno about you but I don't wish to be compared with either of those things.

Black jeans, brown shoes is a pretty popular colour combination, especially lighter brown.

If you wore a black suit with brown shoes, you would look like an utter fool. The same applies with black jeans & brown shoes.

Have to admit the jack wills outlet is rather good, tshirts at £9 and bought a raincoat from £97 down to £19

Simply not true. http://www.asos.com/search/black-skinny-jeans?hrd=1&q=black+skinny+jeans#parentID=-1&pge=0&pgeSize=20&sort=-1 Most have been modeled with brown shoes.

Brown formal shoes are v.popular at the moment.

Outlet villages. My worst enemy.
Really can't decide what sort of jacket I want for the winter months. I've got a nice long woolen Topman coat that is great for warmth and comfort, but I feel like I should have a slightly more lightweight option that could be used in more varied situations. I really can't make my mind up, but I'm being drawn towards aviator jackets, or at least something towards that sort of style. Haven't found any amazing ones yet and I've trawled all my 'usual' shops and even eBay, but I've been left disappointed. That being said, this did interest me - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Topman-mens-zip-up-Aviator-jacket-with-furred-collar-Small-/180923194144?pt=UK_Men_s_Coats_Jackets&hash=item2a1fdcdb20 - but I'm in no way really sold on it.

So, any suggestions for a winter jacket that has some versatility to it? Preferably not too expensive. Nothing too far into the hundreds! :cute:

Get a Harrrington. I got a really nice one from New Look http://www.newlook.com/shop/mens/jackets-and-coats/chambray-harrington-jacket_251718640 and wear it all the time. Nice & lightweight, probably the best looking jacket style around as well IMO. ASOS have some reasonably cheap ones

Ah yeah, I forgot to say Harrington's were my other main thought! Cheers for reminding me and for that quick response  I like ASOS' ones, but I kinda feel like I'd prefer a navy one and I don't think they have any. Might make it harder to pair them with jeans though. Hmm. You ever tried pairing yours with denim?

Spoiler

tl;dr it can be done. "Suit rules" do not apply to all clothes. Dark blue jeans work with black shoes rather nicely. Don't be closed-minded. Don't fall into a waistcoat button argument.

Yeah, admittedly its not perfect, but I always wear it open so the colour I have underneath breaks it up, and its actually quite grey so it looks alright & I'm happy with it. I actually normally wear black skinny jeans, so its not too much of a problem.

Fair
I have a pair of Levi jeans that I want to get tapered and if possible, hemmed aswell. Does anyone know a place in or around London that could do this for me?
Does this outfit work?

The red trousers are a bit brave... I'd be tempted to just go for jeans
