Edmonton is not even that bad.... South London more like e.g. Peckham

Edmonton is a mess. I nearly got mugged the other day, literally have to watch your back the whole time if you are on your own.

But I'm white, weedy(although kind of fat now because of bloody A2 exams) and wear skinnies everyday. The worst I get is occasionally being called gay in deprived places like Harrow and Stepney Green, nothing major.

I won't deny that it never happens but you talk to people who aren't from London//posho idiots from London//people from London who think they are gangsta but live in Harrow or Wembley or some other suburban place who think it is some sort of real-life, crime ridden GTA. This all distracts us from the important issues like being better than the rest of the country and everywhere beyond Watford Gap being the North.

I think there's bound to be millions of white skinny jean wearing people in the UK. I highly doubt every one of them has been attacked... I simply said I've seen people be attacked simply for that. It doesn't mean every one has been..

There are other bad areas in the country. And because there are lots of good areas in London as well as bad ones that brings the crime rate up. Seriously though you must be a london person from one of the categories you speak about because if you think that there aren't horrifically bad parts you need to get out more. Nobody says that parts of London that are like GTA... as no where is the world is like GTA... however in certain places you get stabbings happening over nothing.

There are bad parts of London but none like the ones my original reply was aimed at. London, even in its most dodgy form, is still a very tolerant place in the most part and as long as you don't be a dick and are just casual you are bound to be fine and left alone.

The chances of you randomly getting stabbed are about 1 in 1m as long as you don't look for trouble. I am simply against all of this hype and perception about London and it is something which we, as residents, need to change.

Well I disagree, I've been mugged many times for nothing at all let alone "being a dick".

There are some really lovely areas in london. I am against the hype and perception that all of London is a ****hole and the every second person on the street carries a knife. However I'm not against the perception that it has many ****hole parts were near to every second person carries a knife, because it's simply true.

Ciudad Juarez, Tijuana, some Colombian towns, certain parts of Boston and Chicago with crime rates spiralling exponentially beyond any UK inner city, Medellin in the 90s, Miami in the 80s.

There have been places almost as bad as GTA, 15-20 murders a day nearly all by firearm, decapitated heads everywhere, secuestro express, open child prostitution/porn and fully corrupt police doing nothing about it for years. Just not in this country.

So basically your idea of a ghetto is GTA? Well it's good to see to that to understand life you have to compare it to a game..

I know it should be 'bitches'. I was being ironic, due to to the context of my first sentence in my previous post.

Yes and they're caused by mass immigration.

How else are they non-white areas?

Oh right, I didn't know poverty was non-existent in this country before "mass immigration".

What an earth was Dickens on about

Yes, they're called council estates

From what Ive read, there seems to be two premises to a ghetto;
A) Relative poverty.
B) Largely of one ethnic minority.

Im not sure I completely agree with using ethnicity as a major indicator of a ghetto. Take South Africa for example; the minority ethnicity is white, therefore surely the 'white communities are ghettoes? Considering the general wealth of white South Africans Id find it difficult defining a white South African community as a 'ghetto'.

Now whilst legally there is nothing to legally stop people's movement in the UK, I think its fair to say that economically there is; if you are poor, you are confined to certain areas within your city/area.

If you dont mind humouring me, id like thoughts on a situation close to home (well it is home). I live on the south coast, on a council estate in Littlehampton (near Brighton). Now whilst its not nearly as rough as some places (we have family in Moss Side, Manchester).

I think there might be an argument in saying ghettoization is actually more prevalent where I live, than in big cities like Manchester or London, simply because there is no chance we could ever buy/rent privately in my area and subsequently are confined to one of a small number of council estates in my area. In Manchester there are a greater range of property values, rather than the South Coast which ranges from subsidised housing (council)-to fairly expensive-to ridiculously expensive.

Now I dont know if this is right or wrong, it just occured to me. Thoughts?

They all stem from parents not caring to teach their children the basics, such as apostrophe usage. It's all down hill from there b!tch's.

do you think its the parent's fault or the teachers?

Actually no, I haven't even played GTA but have heard quite a bit of it from friends who did. I just thought you were trying to make the point that nothing was as bad as GTA and so referred to some of the most crime-ridden places.
