Hi, Hornet representative here. Just to let you know, an Ethernet cable will be provided in your welcome pack when you arrive. It is prohibited for students to use their own network equipment in halls (switches, routers etc.) and any wireless networking is also against the rules. If you want to use skype, then the best option is to either use your wired connection on your desktop computer, or to use the university's wifi network(available to you for free across campus and in most accommodation - the network is still expanding!). Personally I use a 3g connection from giffgaff on my smart phone as the wifi signal is too poor in my room.
