Part-time work (recommendations)

Hello,

I'm wondering what it means when job application for student requires 2 recommendations? Basically, they ask for them even for jobs in cleaning or restaurants.

Who should write such things?

I found that not having recommendations limits some choices on the jobs I'm interested in taking on.

It means they need 2 people to comment on your suitability for the job and your character- i.e. are you trustworthy and reliable? Employers need these to minimise the risk when taking on new staff. Someone from a previous job or work experience you've undertaken could write one as well as a university tutor.
