Can anyone recommend good mid-range universities for IR? I mean unis asking for around BBB. I'm visiting Nottingham Trent due to the placement year option, which for me is a huge bonus!

I'm thinking of UCL, KCL, Royal Holloway and SOAS, but LSE is my top choice.
Is anyone else considering the Politics and East European Studies course at UCL? If so, what are your thoughts on writing the PS for it...my other four options focus somewhat on the middle east - its the main common topic between all 4 unis - except UCL. Any ideas?

Also...after getting AAABB in my AS exams (which I was happy with!) I started to worry that I might have knocked my chances of getting into LSE as I didn't get all A's. I know there are VERY limited places, but are they really that hyper about getting straight A's?

Thanks!!!

To be honest, I know LSE pay a great amount of attention (compared to other unis) to your GCSEs.. And many other applicants will have a string of A*/A's at GCSE and AS grades similar to yours, if not better, and like you said, there are very limited places so..
Just depends on other applicants grades (and PS/reference of course)

Loughborough? That's ABB-BBB and they offer a placement year.. Goldsmiths is also ABB-BBB but I don't think they offer a placement year

What kind of things are you guys putting on your personal statements? As in extra-curricular/work experience/wider reading, that kind of thing.

UEA ask for ABB if you think you can stretch that far, Oxford Brookes want BBC, Southampton will give a BBB offer if you do an EPQ

I'm doing and Access Course and will be applying for politics/ir  Think I've decided on Sheffield, Leeds, Nottingham Trent, Hull and De Montfort
The only thing that put me off with UCL is their politics programme is twinned with Eastern European studies (which doesn't really interest me) or is the 4 year degree programme that requires proficiency in another language - I do have a GCSE in French but I'm by no means a confident speaker and it was quite a while ago I studied it!

Their Philosophy & Economics programme looks pretty incredible, though.

I'm applying to Bristol, Bath, Southampton, Exeter and Birmingham for Politics and IR.

I got AAAC (Politics, Geography, Fine Art, Philosophy) at AS and dropped Philosophy.

Bath, Bristol and Southampton ask for 3 A's while the other two ask for ABB. I'm also doing an EPQ on foreign aid but I will be surprised if I get an A in it so Southampton won't lower to BBB.

I am concerned that my choices are too risky. Can anyone recommend some lower ones? Maybe to replace Exeter?

Personally with AAA I think ABB is as low as you need to go really as it still allows for a drop in performance at A2. There are very few uni's asking for BBB for Politics and IR- I've just done a search on what uni and the only uni's that came up were Keele and Aberdeen.

Hopefully I'll get ABB+ then! It would be a waste to apply to Keele or Aberdeen as I wouldn't go there, I'd just retake the year instead haha. Thanks

I'm sure you'll be fine
I got ABD in my AS Levels. A in Politics, B in History and a D in Law which was a (very surprising) disaster which I'll be retaking.

I live in Ipswich and don't want to go ridiculously far, although I have visited Surrey. I've also visited Essex and UEA. Thinking about De Montford and Nottingham Trent too as they are slightly lower entry. Maybe Portsmouth.

Any questions about the UEA course feel free to ask

tbh best is subjective. Each university has its own specialisms- you need to look at each universities courses that are within your grade limits.

As this is a British website its unlikely anyone here will know anything about universities in Geneva. Personally I've never heard of either.
I've finished my A-levels so I'm now on a year out. I'm applying for Politics and IR and am hoping to apply to Nottingham Trent, Chester, De Montfort, Oxford Brookes and Portsmouth. At the moment my favourite is Notting ham Trent as I went to have a look there a few weeks ago, I went to De Montfort at the weekend and didn't like it as much. I'm visiting Portsmouth in a few weeks time
