Changes to the national curriculum - what do you think?

As you're probably aware, Michael Gove is planning to introduce a new national curriculum for primary schools and KS3 starting from 2014. This new curriculum will place more emphasis on learning facts and the core subjects. ICT will also be replaced by computing.
What do you think of the changes? Do you think they're a step in the right direction? Some people have criticised them, saying they encourage rote learning and don't place enough emphasis on subjects like the arts and humanities. Others, however, think they're necessary in order for the UK to compete on the global market. Do you think the current curriculum is too easy compared to other countries'?
