Pgce interview please help

Hi
so I have an interview at MMU for a PGCE course. There are two presentation requirements for the interview and I'm really struggling with one of them. That being...

Choose a topic from the Primary National Curriculum. Consider what a lesson on the topic would be.
Think about how you might introduce the topic to the children at the start of your lesson.
Prepare a 3 minute presentation to describe and illustrate “How you would engage/”hook” the children at the start of lesson about the topic that you have chosen”. This may include stimuli/ props if you wish.

The subject I would choose is Art but I don't understand the instructions thoroughly. Anyone got any ideas on where to go from there. Any ideas at all are welcome.

Quite tricky for Art

Some ideas here: https://www.twinkl.co.uk/teaching-wiki/ks1-art-curriculum

A 'hook' is often a scenario or examples or an artefact - an example here:

I would google and adapt

Hey !! Mine went well, I ended up getting a place thank god. I just thought about what I would want to teach so started looking up ideas for topics in the subject area I wanted to do, and then thought about what I wanted the lesson would look like and a good way to introduce it. Advice wise I would say mentioning cross curriculum is something they often find impressive (I used art and science), and multi sensory approaches so like incorporating a song, or a story, or a video etc…

Also a side note but something I wish I’d done - see if you can find the subject the interviewer specialises in on the university website, I got lucky as my interviewer specialised in science but she was really happy to see that I was willing to incorporate that into an art lesson.

Hope that’s helpful, and good luck xx

ahh congrats on getting on!! thank you that’s super helpful xx
did you find the individual interview aspect okay? just worried there’s questions i may not have prepared for! Cant wait for it be done, but from what i’ve heard the interviewers are normally really friendly and it’s not as scary as you think.

thank you!! xxx

Tbf to them it was very much like a conversation, I found a lot of it was more or less common sense. The only questions that really tripped me up was I got asked about what I’d do with a new starter child with EAL and i hadn’t heard of that at all, but the interviewer was really nice and told me what id learn to do. They are super nice about it and understand that you haven’t actually done the training yet, so it’s more of a get to know what you want to learn kind of thing

No worries, just breathe and if you don’t know an answer, just tell them that’s something you’re ready to learn. You’ll be great, good luck x
