most people just find an excuse (or invent one) to hate the other person.
I think by doing that it's not really getting over him. Because that's just making something up which is probably not true. Getting over someone is not liking them even when they're them, and not just because of a reason that's pulled out from nowhere.
I tried that technique too and it did not work. I still thought about him 'cause I wanted to hate him. I guess this hating thing would work if you won't see him again.
Cutting all contact is definitely important.

why dont you just do what 95% of people do and go out and hook up or sleep with someone else.

I have. I think now it's just a matter of getting rid of the ring we exchanged, the necklace he gave me, the doll he bought me....
