You don't really need a huge amount of confidence, no. It helps though to be able to speak in tutorials/seminars and I know some lecturers (although not at my university) ask questions in lectures.

There's a huge variety of people who study law: from geeks, "cool" people and your standard ******s.

Law might help to develop your confidence, but your confidence is bound to develop at university anyway.

I don't do any debating and I don't have to.
Don't worry because being too out going and getting hammered socialising could make you do a lot worse at law. You'll develop as you do more, especially with the mooting which gives everyone a sporting chance i.e 10-15 minutes to have their say

I agree with the other comments in this thread. There's such a variety of people who take Law; some are very confident and others are quiet inept gimps.

I'm very confident and outgoing so I like getting stuck in with events in the Law School. Haven't tried mooting yet...next year

I was a bit worried, as I'm not the most outgoing person in the world, but I surprised myself by gaining a huge amount of confidence and becoming one of the more outspoken ones in seminars. A couple of people hardly ever spoke unless they had to and still did really well.
