How 'right' are dissertation supervisors?

Typically dissertation supervisors look over your drafts. Having asked your supervisor if what has been done so far is good enough for a First class, and they respond "It's obviously impossible to tell now, but it comes down to differences. However, you are along the right track"... Does that mean you're probably getting a first if the standard pretty much continues?

Obviously it gets marked by your supervisor, then second marked, and in my case also triple marked. What is the likelihood that they all vary in their marking and there are large disparities in the way they mark it?
