Not embarrassed at all because I use inprivate browsing and they wouldn't find a thing. Except maybe the police if they could get it off the hard drive somehow.

Seriously though, I'd have nothing or, at least, extremely little to be embarrassed about, my current history reads something like: TSR > 9GAG > Facebook > Aston's Uni Portal and then rinse and repeat. Such an interesting life I'm living.

The only way to destroy a hard drive completely is to burn it. Even if it is smashed to pieces data is still retrievable.
