Did you all 'survive' freshers? Also be sure to get to Sir David Wallace Sports Hall today if you want to meet the sports clubs and the SU tomorrow for the societies  .

Had a mint freshers. What time does the Bazaar start by the way, need to kill time before IMS trials this aft.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
AU bazaar is 11-4 in the David Wallace sports hall
Societies bazaar is 11-5 at the Student Union
Now that you have seen a bit more about the Union and its Sections, what do you think? The Societies bazaar was pretty hectic but I really enjoyed it

Freshers is coming up and I'm not looking forward to it. I want to make new friends but I'm worried I'm going to be excluded and people will think I'm weird or unsocial, and I'm not. I really am a social person, and I like getting to know people. I'm more of a pub/night in/cinema/chatting person. I'm on the Loughborough FB page, and looking around, most people are looking forward to the clubbing, drinking etc. Anyone else in my boat?

Same!!! I'm going to lboro and don't drink and party 😊. I am not an unsociable person. I am looking forward to meeting new people on my course (maths and sports science) and through the badminton society.

I feel much the same. I drink, but am not excessive and am more interested in having a laugh with people, rather than not being able to remember what happened the night before.
I hope I meet others like you when I arrive too.
Where are you all staying?

I'm in falkegg. Ive requested a quiet room to cut the late night house parties out. Im sure we'll be a minority, but at least there are other like minded people out there!

Similar boat to you, although I don't mind the occasional few drinks!
well its good to see some new folk on here! hope you enjoy your time in loughborough!

and can i just point out, there is an 'alternative freshers' going on at the union with events like roller disco, giant inflatables, sumo suits... all these where no alcohol is permitted or sold - so dont worry, the union does think of you! there are good, fun, sober things to do over the fornight.
I feel similarly to the OP, but I still look forward to freshers, and hey, if you are going out and everyones drinking, you dont have to drink too (if you dont want), no one is monitoring you. Just prepare for a good time, if you want OP we could team up, watch some Hot Fuzz or something while everyone gets plastered!
Just to warn new people to this thread, the original post is a year old and although the majority of information is still accurate some things (like specific dates) may be incorrect for this year. For a more long-term view of socialising, it's probably worth taking a look at the Union activities, like Societies and Sports Clubs. For Freshers' Fortnight, as LivingHistory said there are alternative, non-alcoholic events too ^_^ there will also probably be more relaxed pub nights with some societies (Real Ale is an obvious one, but some societies go to the pub after meeting up for a quiet drink and a chat. Fever and CompSoc definitely do this on occasion, and I'm sure others do too).

For more info on extracurricular stuff check out this year's LSU Societies Thread. You might also want to see last year's thread, but bear in mind that the information there is a year old. Please post any new questions to the new thread ^_^
