Debit card not working?

Just got a debit card from HSBC, does anyone have any idea why it wouldn't be working on the internet (e.g, buying someting from Boots and something from Orange)? thanks x

They probably not activated it, check with your bank.

^^ Yeah you often have to ring to tell them you have received it before they will activate it. Just give them a quick ring!

Normally you need to get in touch with your bank when you receive a card from them to activate it.

This may also seem a bit silly, so apologies if you know this already and I'm barking down the wrong tree, but are there any details you're entering which could be wrong? For about a month I couldn't figure out what the security code on my card was (three digits on the signature strip) which stopped me from working it.
