Sheffield Halls

Could anyone be of help and tell me whether there are any particular halls at Sheffield that tend to me more popular with private school students? as in which halls have the most amount of private school students?

I think halls have differences in vibe rather than poshness. For what it's worth the biggest two student villages Endcliffe (biggest and liveliest) and Ranmoor (smaller and quieter but still a significant size) are located at the posher end of Sheffield.

Just to add to my earlier post I'd guess that the better off students probably rent the more expensive rooms in the student villages (Ranmoor and Endcliffe as aforementioned) as opposed to having a specific hall that they tend to congregate in. I am talking University owned accommodation here .

To give you a feel of the area Ranmoor and Endcliffe are in they used to lie in the political constituency of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheffield_Hallam_(UK_Parliament_constituency). Do not confuse this with Sheffield Hallam University which bizarrely has most of it's campus in another area of the city entirely lol. There are a significant number of private schools, private health clinics and homes of the highly educated and/or wealthy in the area surrounding Endcliffe and Ranmoor. In short it isn't a "scummy hole".

In their second year and beyond most students rent privately and a significant number rent houses in the above linked constituency. This isn't as expensive as you'd think, my son is sharing a house in that area and it costs him about £70 per week excluding utilities etc.

Sheffield probably has an average number of privately educated students for a Russell Group uni. It's no Oxbridge or Durham but it isn't all "working class" either

Hi,

You cannot apply for a specific hall of residence. You can specify whether you would prefer Endcliffe, Ranmoor or City & Central, and your room type (en-suite/ shared bathroom, catered/self-catered etc.) but that's it. As a result, there tends to be a mix of students from different backgrounds across our student accommodation - there is no on hall that is more popular with private school students, for example, as our application process doesn't work that way.
