Hey guys,

Just generally intrigued about this one, I'm not here to propose my own views. I'm not referring to just jokes in the written sense, put also pictures which I'm sure most of you have seen.

In today's society, we can apply it to anything really, we seem to live in a society with a twisted sense of humour. I will put my hands up and admit I have chuckled at the odd photo-shopped picture of Hitler, and the odd pun here and there. But, do you think this is completely unacceptable? Is it a travesty? Is it merely trivializing the sheer horror that was caused under the Nazi regime? Or do you think that finding a joke funny doesn't claim that it actually is?

Again, this can apply to anything, but I've just been reading a lot lately on this subject area and I thought it would be interesting to discuss.

I honestly don't mind these jokes, unless they're unfunny and obviously were meant to be offensive; in that case I would just ignore them, there is really no use to fighting or arguing about it. And to be honest, depending on the group I'm with, I might laugh at a joke with a certain group of people but gasp at the same joke with another; that's the way it works for me, because people love to be offended these days and nothing good comes out of intentionally annoying them.

Never tried... have to be careful with Papa Franco - I mean, Tory government watching our communications.

Well whilst it seems extreme I can see why they want to shut certain things down.

Free speech is one thing but saying stuff that will likely lead to extreme offence, violence and trouble is another.

Not sure there is any correlation between dark humour and (actual, excluding the obviously controversial jokes) bad intent

I think the whole point of this thread is it's about the obviously controversial jokes

Some cultures censor freedom of speech because they consider it a predisposition to act, I do not think someone making dark humor about Lee Rigby would somehow make them a terrorist, and even if they were I seriously doubt there is a proven correlation between the one causing the other...

It doesn't mean they are a terrorist.

It means they are likely to cause a public order offence by provoking someone. So if the authorities are there to protect teh public from crime its best to shut down this type of extreme offence.

Basically just type funny Hitler (or something a long those lines) in Google images, same applies for the Holocaust.

As I said in my last post that's me going out of my way to look for it.

There's child porn on the internet and I don't go searching for that either. People have different opinions on what's acceptable/funny, but if I have to go out of the way to find it then the impact its having on my life is naff all. I thought it was a new social media craze or something, this thread is balls go search any event and type funny after it and you'll find a bunch of jokes/offensive material, Joseph Fritzle, Oscar P, the battle of Hastings etc etc
At the end of the day, all good humour comes at the expense of others. If you sit through a Michael McIntyre show, he'll take the mick out of every demographic he can that people can relate to. He'll put on a Chinese accent (which, for some reason, some idiots think is racist), he'll make jokes about the Scots, Welsh and Irish and all sorts of other race-related things.

What happened is not something that is particularly humorous, but humour can still be derived from it. If some people are 'offended', then tough. I find/don't find it funny and I will laugh/not laugh at my discretion.

The only time it is wrong is if it actually impinges on somebody's ability to live their life - ie. I actively (or even passively, I guess) discriminate against them. I might laugh at a black joke, but I would never pick a white employee over a black employee based on the colour of their skin.
Honestly jokes about Nazism and the Holocaust don't necessarily bother me. I used to get really emotional about the Holocaust but after I visited Auschwitz and Birkenau I became really desensitized to it and I always make little jokes to myself, not to offend but as a kind of coping mechanism or something I guess because I genuinely have no emotional attachment to anything or anyone anymore. What's the point in taking everything so seriously? As long as you don't tell the joke with the intent of offending anyone then there is nothing wrong with it, in my opinion.
