Obama is considering supplying weapons to Ukraine. Should he do so?

I think Obama or rather the US government has no other option but to support Ukraine with arms against the Russians. What worry's me is the Americans being so overt about it. The Russians will have just cause to take further actions in Ukraine, and indeed along with Central European plain so Belarus, Moldova, Estonia and Latvia. The Russian actions will not be obvious, they will be an attempt to split the Europeans from the Americans. This will happen, basically meaning the end of NATO. However the Russians will have only strengthened the Americans position and lost all political and economic leverage they once had through NATO. So from then on the Americans supporting Poland, Lithuania, Hungary and Romania will push into the Russian buffer and force the Russians out. This doesn't mean a war between Russia and Poland, it means something like the Cold war on a much smaller scale. This will lead to a crisis in Russia and cause it to breakup. Russian will remain but in not position to challenge anyone, it will basically become a land locked nation. Poland will now be the main power in central to eastern Europe from the Germany border to the Urals, from the Baltic sea to the Bosphorus strait. It will likely have one of the strongest armies and air forces in the world, a dynamic and consumer based economy, with a decent population of 50 million people. Poland will be the greatest European power, with Britain being in a strong position also. France will be France, Germany will have lost 20 million of its current population, its economy will have suffered a massive recession and loss of exports with breakup of the European Union. This will all have happened by the mid 2020's, maybe 2030.

Botswana thinks the USA has not been following through on their actions. If they want Russia out of Eastern Ukraine and end the war they have to significantly boost the Ukrainian army. No matter how many sanctions are put on the Russian government they're not going to back down easily. (same goes for ISIS)

Mexico understands the US' motive behind this, but does not think it will amount to much, and most likely disrupt the peace talks between Russia and the EU, which is the real way to solve the scenario.

Canada shares Mexico's view, and would rather see a humanitarian approach rather than a violent one. Russia can be sanctioned further if it continues to damage Ukraine.

No the US doesn't have to strengthen the Ukrainian army, it needs to improve their air force and missile troops, as well as give the Ukrainians space based intelligence. The Ukrainian army can't do anything as the Russian army is superior. However it can step up the conflict and offer a greater challenge to Russia if it has more tools.

The other option the Americans have is what they are doing, moving assets to Poland, Romania, Baltic's and Bulgaria. Then support these places with greater technology, logistics, training and arms sales. Making sure the Russians can't go beyond Ukraine.
