solve my brother's year 6 homework

I can't do my brother's maths homework.

I think it's due to the lack of clarification in the instructions. (I hope!)

Total number of housepoints was 144 and each 'line' adds to the same amount. 144/3= 48 so each line adds to 48.

However, the numbers have to be consecutive. The consecutive numbers that add to 48 are 15,16,17. Pupils can't have the same housepoints as each other so it can't just be 3 lines of 15,16 and 17.

Basically it isn't clarified whether all the numbers are meant to be consecutive or just within the line.

Also, surely the fact 'no two children had the same number of points' covers the fact that 'jeremy did not have the same points as Sanjay.' That point of info was useless.

See if you can solve it! IMG_20150221_190229.jpg
Let the middle number of 9 consecutive numbers be n.

Form an equation and find n.

Now put them into a magic square.

You might find it easier to solve the square using numbers 1 to 9 and then just add 11 to them all.
Worked out how to do it now! Totally misunderstood the instructions; though I still maintain that they're unclear

Ignore thread!
Can you post the solutions please.

The information was clearly wrong, which is why we got the question wrong.

You have nearly done it but your answer is a reflection of the correct answer.

What did you think was wrong with the the question?

Jeremy had the lowest score, he didn't.

Like I said, your answer is a 'reflection' of the correct solution.
