Problem with my outgoing mail on my email client

I have (tried to) set up my email client (Mail (on Mac)) for my York email address. I have managed to get the incoming mail working but I cannot send messages out. Does anyone know how to set it up?

You need to set the outgoing to smtp.york.ac.uk, it doesnt have https or anything on it. Unless you are off campus?

I'm off-campus and assumed there wasn't a way. Do you know of anything, Alastair (using Outlook Express)?

If you tell me your ISP (by PM if you want) then I will tell you what you need to change in Outlook Express.

If you're off campus you can just use your ISP for outgoing mail (e.g. smtp.tiscali.co.uk for Tiscali).

If someone could tell me how to do it (on campus) with thunderbird, I'd be most grateful.

The rough instructions are create a new account with IMAP and the incoming (IMAP) server is abc123.imap.york.ac.uk (where abc123 is your username) and the outgoing one is smtp.york.ac.uk. Personally don't use Thunderbird so can't be much more helpful than that I'm afraid!
