Energetics Help!

I was wondering if someone can help me with the following question, I've been trying to figure it out all weekend but I just can't work it out. It's probably something really simple!

'Explain why enthalpy changes calculated from mean (average) bond enthalpy data differ from those calculated using ∆Hc and ∆Hf data.'

Thanks in advance

mean bond enthalpy data uses the bond of that bond in various compounds e,g C-H bond in propane + C-H bond in ethane + C-H bond in methane /3 but more compounds than that

(i think)
