IT Apprenticeships

Ive done a degree in Accountancy but after working in a practice for 2 years and now Ive decided against a career in it.
Is it too late for a 26 year old to join an apprenticeship? Im very computer literate and believe IT is the right choice for me. Only my age makes me a bit self concious.

Yeah it could work against you as could the fact that you already have a degree, whilst not relevant. Employee's may be reluctant.

Have you tried looking into entry level IT jobs such as Helpdesks and First line support as stepping stone into IT?

I have been looking but they all seem to require experience. I just thought apprenticeships would be easier to get into, and they offer support for qualifications.

Tbh, I'm no expert. I'm considering an apprenticeship myself but I'm younger.

I guess you could contact a few apprenticeship companies and see, what they say. Although a lot of them are aimed more at school and college leavers.
Hi HNK 5 I am an IT Expert with 12 years experience - I can guide you through this. Get in touch
I have previously helped students / junior IT guys to get into IT and from 18k to 45K in 3-4 years (depended on their individual commitment as well)

What sort of roles? Management or specialising in a particular niche?

Hi there,

I'm currently in the IBM apprenticeship scheme so any questions let me know.

Age doesn't matter we have someone who is 32 on the scheme!

All the best,Sean Kennedy

Only issue is funding, so you would have to take out a 24+ loan for it, which works the same way the new (post 2012) Student Finance England system works. This is if the company will not fund you.

I have another year of school, but I have been doing Cisco Level 2 and Level 3 in Year 11, Cisco apprenticeships are very hard to obtain, although our school does well as we are taught from year 10 as oppose to 6th form upwards, however there is a very hard process which involves presentations, interviews galore, so not just on your practical ability. What is the procedure for an IBM apprenticeship and are there any in the Worcestershire area? Debating whether to do 6th form or move to an apprenticeship.

You would need to have 160 UCAS point as this is an apprenticeship that you would do after sixth done or college.
