Why are categories of behavior necessary in observation studies?

This was in my exam(only worth 2 marks) but couldn't answer it properly

Categories with clearly defined/operationalised variables (e.g. explaining a certain type of aggression) allows the researcher to understand what they need to look out for in the observation. Categories need to be well defined so that other researchers can agree that they are seeing the same information.

Something similar to this I suppose. What did you answer it as?

I think I just wrote 'because they are the separate actions that are recorded', which is a rubbish answer. I had no idea what to write. Btw this is GCSE so I don't think they wanted an in-depth answer + it was only worth 2 marks.

It probably is just down to the mark scheme but thank you anyway!
