Nope not yet. Good to hear they won't reject by silence.

Indeed (hopefully that's still the case). I'll let you know if I hear anything....

Got a mini at Serle! Thanks for all the help guys. Is it considered a hard set to get one at, or do they just give them out with their only being one day?

Congrats! Yes and no - they do turn people down if they haven't got the grades or experience they're looking for and they are a top set, but I also think they're not too pretentious, so don't mind if you're not Oxbridge, for example. Either way, great for the CV, especially if you're thinking of applying there/similar sets for a full pupillage.

How much experience/ what experience would you say you needed to apply for mini-pupillage? It seems so difficult to get :frown:

Depends - what stage are you currently at and what types of sets/practice areas are you looking at?

I got one so I expect they just give them out. More seriously, I expect shorter minis are easier to get than longer ones, because sets can offer more short than long throughout the course of a year. If I had kept a record of sets that I'd applied to / been accepted / been rejected by, I would be able to see if there was any truth in this hypothesis...

Interesting hypothesis - as sad as this is, I do actually have a record of most of my apps, so I might just be tempted to prove/disprove your theory :P

It depends upon the set and whether you're applying for an assessed or an unassessed mini pupillage. The unassessed mini pupillages at 11KBW don't seem too difficult to secure. I did a mini pupillage there as a penultimate year non-law undergraduate.
Anyone heard anything from Maitland? They had a 1 September deadline.

Didn't apply in this window, but when I did earlier this year I got a PFO relatively quickly, so at least they don't reject by silence. Was somewhat disappointed as it was one of the sets I mosted wanted for pupillage (although as they're non gateway I'll probably apply anyway). Good luck.

The only set I'm waiting to hear back from (the only set I applied to recently) is Fountain for one of their assessed minis. If I don't get that, that will be another set crossed off the list for pupillage apps in a few months.

On a totally different note (in fact off-topic entirely, but the subject may nonetheless be of interest to many here), I'm starting to think about Inn Scholarship Applications. Trying to decide between Gray's and Lincoln's Inn - but not sure what relevant differences there are. Lincoln's has many more scholarships but I assume it gets many more applications as well, and that those two roughly balance out. The form for Lincoln's is much shorter than I imagined it would be, it's very matter-of-fact.

iirc Lincoln's has more scholarships even proportionately, but Gray's are bigger. Gray's also aren't means tested. I can't remember whether or not Lincoln's are.

I don't think the Gray's form is particularly difficult either.

Can't see the Gray's form yet, applications only open next week, but I'm sure you're right. I looked at either Inner or Middle (forgotten which) and it was much lengthier.

Assume you'll be applying somewhere as well?

Haven't heard anything either yet. Also wasn't it 31st August?

Not much difference I think, as proportionately they're more or less the same, though Lincoln's may be a little higher. Personally, I'm going for Lincoln's, but that's because I've been a member since my 2nd year of uni as I prefer the Inn generally. Mainly because of the specialist bits of its library and the terrace of the MCR  (I tend to spend a fair bit of time there in the summer/nice weather, and it's the only Inn with its own bar/restaurant, outside of the main hall...)

They are - that actually comprises about half of the form, and is a bit of a pain to fill out, especially the question about 'how do you intend to pay for the BPTC' - erm.... through one of your scholarships, if possible? :dontknow:

Yeah I'll be applying. Haven't decided where either yet. I quite like Inner, purely on aesthetic value.

Neither Lincoln's nor Gray's inns scholarships are means assessed. It's only Inner and Middle who have an alternative criteria dedicated to 'financial need'. And even then, Middle say that they assess you for an award first, and then afterwards apply the means criteria, so by the looks of it, only Inner give to those who really need it. Having said that, it does mean if you don't get a major then the means scholarships of one or two grand when you absolutely cannot self-fund the BPTC are worthless.

I am genuine drawn to Middle as it's the only inn where you are called to the Bar wearing full court attire. If that is going to be the only time I wear that wig and gown, I'm going to do it properly, aha!

I have yet to apply, and am still weighing up the pros and cons, but I'm so easily dazed by the aesthetics and location over their scholarships and the help each gives. Once I get over that, I will make the decision seriously!

Just heard that they've started reviewing the applications, so hopefully we should hear back soon-ish...
