Hi I've gotten an offer for Psychology (three years) but I've heard that placement year is extremely beneficial for you and I've heard a lot of great things about it...Is it possible to change and opt for placement year?

Hi,

From my experience, several people in my year have changed from the three year course onto the four year placement course once starting the degree at Bath. This is because some people already on the placement course may decide to change to the three year course and hence more spaces on the placement course may become available. However this is likely to depend on the specific cohort that you are part of and the number of students on each course. It may be worth emailing the placements team at [email protected] to get a more definitive answer on whether this is possible.

If you have any other questions please feel free to quote me!

Dear bath,

Hi, I got accepted into both Bristol and bath for maths and rejected from all my other choices. Really stuck on which one to firm as if I firm Bristol I would HAVE to go there ( because they gave me a lower offer than bath). Only deciding factor left is the nightlife. Heard the nightlife in Bristol is better than in bath and there's more to do. Can anyone tell me more about this so I can actually decide ? Just feel I would be happier at a uni that has better nightlife/more social stuff etc. Thanks

Hi,

Congratulations! I am a first year International Management student here at the University of Bath and love it here. If there is any preparation to be done beforehand the department should let you know in good time. I haven't heard of any courses that require preparation however. For now, focus on getting your exams out of the way if you aren't taking a gap year. The harder you work now makes it a lot more enjoyable over summer waiting for results, as you can be more confident that you have made the entry requirements.

At the moment, do consider where you would like to apply to live by visiting this website. I started buying all of my things for university eg. bedsheets and plates after exams. Many shops actually have special student sections that are not too expensive but also suit exactly what we need! If you don't already know how, try to do a bit of cooking, ironing and washing at home.

Hi Sofia,

I'm Hayden, a first year International Management student here at the University of Bath. I am sorry to hear that you are still waiting for a response, I understand how stressful it could be. The admissions team are required to make a decision by 5th May at the absolute latest, however you are correct that most universities will try to respond send out responses by 31st March.

Please try not to worry as there is still plenty of time to hear back from us. I can assure you that our admissions team are working hard to give everybody a response as soon as possible. If you have any other questions please feel free to let me know.

Hi,

I am a first year International Management student here at the University of Bath. I have never experienced nightlife in Bristol, therefore it is difficult for me to make any comparisons. Bristol is a very short train journey from Bath however (around 15 minutes) therefore whatever you decide there is the ease of going to either city.

In Bath we have many clubs in the city and also host club nights on campus twice a week (Klass and Score). I really enjoy them, and believe that you can have a great night out in Bath. From a social perspective I would encourage you to look at our societies and clubs, they offer more opportunities to socialise. I a member of the Management Society and Wine Tasting Society, where I have made many new friends. I also take part in a recreational endurance club, which is just for fun, fitness and a great place to meet new people.

Being a campus university the University of Bath is a very sociable place to study. When walking to lectures you will always bump into people that you know, and the campus is such a happy environment to live and study.

Do make sure that you consider all of the factors however and remember that the nightlife will (hopefully) only make up a relatively small proportion of your time spent at university when compared to lectures for example!

If you have any other questions please feel free to let me know,

Anyone know how the department open days work? Is it literally just about the course and no info on student union, facilities, accommodation etc?

You get told about your course and what it includes and then one of the student union leaders does a talk. Afterwards you can go on a campus tour, see the facilities and ask the tour guide questions about student life, accommodation, anything really to do with the uni.

I also had a 1:1 with one of the lecturers from the social and policy sciences department. I got to ask further questions about the course, anything that wasn't covered in the talk before. I don't know if they do that for all departments though but it seems likely.

As far as I am aware (maybe not all departments offer it..) you get a tour guided by a current student around the campus and you can ask them questions.

Do you get an accommodation tour?

No you don't, it's not part of the tour but I guess you could pass by them on your own so you can see them up close. You wouldn't be able to go inside any of them though.

Hi there!

I'm a first year Computer Science student at Bath.

If you apply to study here and you receive an offer from us, you may be invited on a specific department Open Day.This is a great opportunity to find out more about the degree programme and meet with staff and students. Our Department Open Days (UCAS Days) take place between October and April.

The actual itinerary for the day will differ from course to course. Try looking up for your course on this web page here:
http://www.bath.ac.uk/study/ug/opendays/department/index.html

On my open day I was given info about the course and attended talks by student union leaders. There is usually the option to go on a campus tour and the guide is trained to answer any questions you may have about life at Bath.

Hope this helps!

Chris
I have firmed my unconditional offer for maths and economics at bath to start in September, however I am interested in changing my course to just maths. I have already sat my a levels and achieved grades above those required for the maths course. How likely is it that I would be able to Change my course To straight maths? Thanks

Heya :h: I am a second year MathSci student at Bath.

I know of someone in my year who went from straight Maths to straight Economics after the first week, so it's definitely possible the other way around. It's definitely worth getting in touch with [email protected] and asking them.

Best of luck. :borat:

Hi,

As Sean said, please contact [email protected] for more details on making the change. The sooner you do this the better, as you already have the grades to switch. This does depend on how subscribed the course is, a switch is never guaranteed.

Good luck,

Hayden
Hi everyone,

I've applied to Bath for International Management & Modern Languages (French) and I have an offer conditional on getting AAB. I'm predicted AAA but I'm really worried I won't even get AAB and then won't be able to go to Bath cause I've heard they are really strict on grades! :frown: Anyone know how strict they are, especially for this course? n.b I take French, English Literature & Italian at A Level.

Hey youngtrapqueen, I applied for IMML German and have been accepted as I already have my results (baccalauréat). My exams were different to A levels, I had four entry requirements, and got 3 out of the 4 so they are a little lenient...having said that I was quite near the 4th requirement, but even so...Anyway good luck!!! And I'll mabye see you in September:smile:
