Camp America 2016

I've actually been thinking about this a lot, I really want to do something like this for summer because it looks amazing! I have a substantial amount of Childcare experience and will be graduating in my degree in it by the end of this year! I just don't find the website that helpful in all the different roles you can do haha!

In regards to your experience, you can try do work experience in a school a day a week or something? that way you'll have the experience they require.

I would love to do camp america, but it doesn't seem like your guaranteed a position. Perhaps that is the way I am reading in to things though. I've been looking at the website for weeks now debating on what to do. Is it true that is you are unsuccessful in the application process that you get refunded the £69. I've heard of some people who weren't able to get their money back, no specifically with camp america, but similar programmes.

I've done camp twice - two different ones. Going back to one of the camps next summer and I'm already beside myself with excitement! It really is the best place in the world and I recommend it to everyone I know.

Not sure if I want to do Camp America or do Bunac Work America where I would have a regular job probably in hospitality. It pays more and I would have more free time but I think I would meet more people/make better friends with Camp America and might get lonely on the Work America programme

Hey guys, I'm a 2016 applicant and I'm looking for a bit of advice.

I've passed my interview and I'm now waiting to be placed. On my application, I've noted all the key points in my experience. I've lived on a farm all my life and I've had horses for about 16 years. My interviewer grabbed onto this skill and decided to recommend me as an equine counsellor. However, ideally, I was looking to do something a bit different and experience different sports as a more general counsellor than a specialist.

I've received an email from a Girl Scout camp asking me to consider them as my placement. This camp is extremely equine orientated, and they're ideally looking for me to be an equine coordinator within their program. I'm therefore having doubts about this me being right for this camp because it's going to be so focused on the one thing.

Does anyone know what I should do? The Camp Director's email was very kind and informative, and I don't mean to be ungrateful as I know there are a number of people who are still waiting to be contacted or won't be placed at all. Will Camp America be aware of this camp contacting me personally? If I make my feelings about this placement known, will they pull my application out of the process?

Hello! That's completely fine that you'd like to experience something different, that's not a problem at all and you can let them know you're looking for a different experience. My opinion would be for you to skype the camp first so you can get a sense of the camp; it may be that they have other programmes or are looking to hire you still as a general counselor if you explain the situation. It won't affect your application if you reject the placement - we cannot guarantee when you'll next be contacted but it doesn't affect anything at all don't worry! I would definitely chat with the camp first though to learn more about it and to help with your decision! Your application is still being circulated for general counselor positions, but as horse riding is a high demand skill it is likely you will be contacted by camps for this role. I'd also recommend heading to one of our Fairs as you can head over to some camps that stand out to you and it will give you some freedom into helping you decide which role you would like this summer.
