No, there is a problem. You are taking away our freedom to practice our religion.

Is covering your face a requirement for all muslim women?

You said yourself that the niqab isn't mandatory therefore banning it wouldn't really take away your freedom to practice your religion

And why would shops ban them anyway? :s-smilie:
A women has the choice to wear a niqab or burqa, and if she wants to then that's her choice! Why would it concern you if you don't see her face, huh?! This honestly has nothing to do with you or anyone else!
As far as I know, wearing the niqab or burqa is not obligatory in Islam so when it comes to security checks and other needed situations, taking it off for facial identification is totally understandable, but other than that I don't see it as a big deal?!!!

A shop owner has the right to ban people from his store. Concealing your face makes you unidentifiable and therefore a threat to the security of the people of the store and makes it much easier for you to steal items
Whats the point in making a thread about this, just going to get racist comments...

So what if it isn't mandatory? We still wish to wear it and practice aspects of our religion that are not mandatory. It is our choice. Why do you want to take that away?

Obvious security reasons. People are usually not allowed to casually walk around with a balaclava.

I agree with your right to wear it in private places but not public spaces like buses.

"Fardh, according to them, is what is proved by absolute evidence (evidence that only has one meaning). And waajib is what is proved by presumptive evidence (Evidence that could have more than one meaning)."

It is not Fardh, it is Wajib.

If it needs to be removed for security checks, there is no problem.

And what is more important in islam, to follow the law of the land you live in or to follow a rule based on presumptive evidence such as the one in question?

Hijab means modesty. And people interpret it in different ways. Wearing a headscarf is one way. Yes, they have a choice of following the religion and it's rules. You can't force anybody. In Islam we are told not to force anyone.

Choice is:

1.

1. an act of choosing between two or more possibilities.

If it is what they are supposed to do, then it isn't a choice. There is no option, it is a choice to disobey it but not a choice not to wear it. There is a difference

Are you so frightened of peoples opinions you don't think they should be allowed

It shows that you are are more concerned with pleasing your imaginary friend in the heavens (why would showing your hair and face send you to hell anyway?) than with fitting in with the social norms of a civilised society.

Why does not being able to see someones head feel intimidating to you?
What kind of society? An intolerant one it seems.
It's not intimidating. Don't be distracted by irrelevances.

The real issue is whether religiously inspired face coverings should be removed in situations where other face coverings must be removed (for example, where a motorcyclist is required to remove his helmet on entering a bank).

And the answer is obviously "YES"!
There is no cogent argument why not.

I believe she already stated that removing the face veil in a situation where it is necessary is fine.

Yes, NIQAB (face veil) is not necassary, but covering the head (Hijab) is necessary.
Then why do so many Muslim women not wear one?
And why do so many Muslim women who do wear one, not follow the Quran's instruction to pull loose fitting garments around themselves, but wear tight clothes?
And if the intention is to avoid the interest of men, why all the make-up, patterned hijabs, jewellery, etc?

Don't make no sense.
