Backup to veterinary?
I am currently taking a gap year but resitting my biology exam which I got a b in, I did maths and chemistry as well and got 2a's so everything is dependent upon biology. I was wondering if I didn't get the a I needed what is a good backup choice for me to eventually do veterinary medicine or a course which allows me to transfer or anything?! And what work experience is adequate to even get an interview to uni
A good backup course would be Animal Behaviour- it has lower entry requirements and would be a great course of study in preparation for vet medicine because, after all, you'd be studying animals!

Not all of the vet schools will accept re-sits so you might want to check that before applying (I can't remember which ones accept them).
Lots of people choose bioveterinary science as a back up and try and switch but you would have to be pretty amazing for them to let you, I wouldn't recommend you tried to do this really unless you are sure you will be able to switch. You could do a different degree and then do vet as a second degree, you would need to sort out funding as you won't be entitled to much from student loans for a second degree and I know people that struggle with this aspect and would be hesitant to recommend it.
Be aware that biovet courses will have lots people that got rejected from vet school and other courses will have people on them that really want to be on the course they are on so it would be a slightly different atmosphere.
You could do a veterinary nursing course, I think RVC do nursing courses for nurses to become specialist in an area.
Work experience requirements vary, Liverpool has the highest asking for 10 weeks (6w husbandry, 4w vet practice), you will be able to find this information on all of the websites depending on which vet schools you are interested in. The number on the website will be the minimum they will consider and many people will have a lot more. Most people at Liverpool coming straight from A-levels have 15-20weeks and people who have taken a gap year tend to have way more.

NO course allows you to do transfers to vet med per se. You can do it post grad as Tenrec mentioned but do you have £9k to £20k per year to pay for tuition fees up front for a second degree? The reality is that even if you work during your vet degree you are very unlikely to get anywhere near that number. You are unlikely to get a loan for that amount yourself. Placements (EMS) during your degree can prevent you having a day time job and are another financial burden!
Work experience wise you need both variety and a decent amount. There is no magic number and often you are compared to your cohort. Some unis will ask for more than others too- ideally you want more than the minimum stated on thir website. As someone who is resitting (I assume you are spending an extra year in school to do this?) you would be expected to have completed more work experience as you've had more time to do so.

You could try the RVC gateway program, some of the other schools run programmes for people who haven't quite reached the required grades.

For A level? - Yes.
There's several people who have got in with AAB or ABB - but I wouldn't count on it.
God dammit, i heard of a few people getting into RVC last September with AAB, but anyways its okay now that they've gotten rid of their BMAT examination, but thank you guys!
