Why is student satisfaction so low at UCL?

I know this seems to be asked quite a lot, but, why does UCL get such a low student satisfaction rate on all the league tables? I'm looking to study physics and, certainly on that course, it seems to be a lot of students unhappy with the feedback. Is this really the case? The question has been asked a lot but always seems to be unanswered or just plain ignored which just raises my suspicions. Can any UCL students shed some light on the situation?
This also worries me :frown: I am going to study Computer Science.

Commenting on the damning results, Hannah Sketchley, the union’s Democracy and Communications officer, said: “Perhaps if the University focussed on its current students and pastoral care rather than cynically expanding and bringing in more and more high-paying students for their fees, and then immediately neglecting them, the current students would be more satisfied.”The results seem to have struck a chord with disaffected students on campus. Roshni Mehra, a 2nd year Law student said: “The ridiculous price of rent and travel doesn’t help any student no matter how much someone points to QS Shanghai and revels in the university’s academic rigour”.It's a corporate Uni, there's no student life and people just go there to get the degree and get a job.

Some people go to university for the "experience" ... ie get drunk 3 or 4 nights a week, party hard and socialise.

Because it's close to LSE and Imperial, and the students know it'll never be as good as them.
i go to ucl and id rate it very low too it's loads of things, it's the price of London, price of rent, there were 24 000 students here 8 years ago now there's 35 000 and theyre mostly internationals being robbed of stupid amounts a year by UCL. Tutors have no time for you, they usually don't reply to your emails or give you the time of day, the student body is filled with mainly Oxford rejects who are out to prove themselves so everyone keeps to themselves, honestly there's no student cohesion. Being in London, we're all so far apart, it's not like being in a small city like Bristol or Durham and if you wanna go out in London you'll average £30 on just an average night, so we really don't have too much fun. I was so happy when i got into UCL because of it's prestige and reputation, but in retrospect, Bristol might have been better.

As a student at UCL I couldn't agree more, although I love the uni I must admit the fact their expanding (increasing student number) and lack of unity hurts them. If it was 10 years in the future when the expansion is completed, I think would rather go Durham, Bristol or St Andrews.
I have to say being a current UCL Geography student I don't agree with people who say tutors don't reply to emails etc, in my course whenever I've sent emails they've always been replied to within a couple of hours usually, and if i need to see any professors they are always really friendly and happy to see you during office hours (or outside their hours if you make an appointment with them). Yes UCL is busy and it's a large uni, but I've found 99% of my lecturers to be enthusiastic, extremely clever and good at teaching / explaining concepts. Just my thoughts x
There's a feeling at UCL that the "powers the be" run the university like a business. People give low satisfaction because they don't like the way it's run. But really in terms of student experience, I don't think you can beat it, just because of its incredible location and diverse and interesting student body. You're never going to struggle to meet people at university, and the people you meet at UCL are great. And London is incredible.

One other thing is, there seems to be a LOT of new courses popping up with a small (20-30 person) intake, and it wouldn't surprise me if there were some teething problems with these courses which could be contributing to lower overall satisfaction.

Oh yeah and facilities are quite poor, and it can get annoying to have to travel halway across London to take an exam in Brixton or something. Accommodation is quite expensive too, but that's London for you. Overall I think the main thing is, with London on the doorstep, UCL doesn't really have to do too much to keep students coming in, and for students London can overshadow UCL. Elsewhere, you're a student at the universty first and a citizen of the town/city second.

But I'm extremely satisfied so this is all speculation
