''Women should not travel more than 48 miles without a male escort''

A) Old news
B) The MCB themselves have denounced it
C) Even if someone somewhere has said that Muslim women can't do x , honestly? It's not going to stop them.

Its a non story and tbh it just shows what the Telegraph has now become - a once worthy newspaper that has fallen from grace. Honestly, I expect better from.the Telegraph

'escort'
:mmm:

I concur.
:perv::sexface:
I wonder how the number 48 came about. Don't see a difference between 47 and 49, tbh.

Thank you for this amazing piece of information you have provided for us. You must be very proud of yourself. Have a :pizza:
16 miles a day? How slow do Muslims walk?

MCB ?

And who appointed this guy Yusuf Shabbir Grand Mufti?

What makes his opinion prevail over the other 1.6 billion Muslims?

Because it is written!
"49 miles shallt thou not travel, neither travellest thou 47, excepting that thou then proceed to 48".

MCB ?

Muslim Council of Britain

What is pretty bad is that Telegraph readers, aren't reading past the headline and even when there are Muslim women saying "Actually you're wrong" they're insistent that life is exactly how they want it to be portrayed as, because that way they can continue to think of Muslims as being "evil" ..

Thought so, and if non-Muslims are ignoring the MCB ironically it's because actual Muslims are ignoring the MCB. They are not an authority to denounce anything on anyone's behalf or 'tell us like it is'.

What is a Mahram, i.e. a man that can never marry a woman?

Yeah a man that cannot marry her.

Ah, the stock response of the religionist that illustrates their essentially selfish worldview.

How does FGM in Somalian girls affect men in Australia?
How do political prisoners in North Korea affect women in Canada?
How do the working conditions of migrant workers in Qatar affect the couple in Denmark?

The answer is...they don't.
Does that mean that we should just ignore their plight and get on with our lives?
Or should we make some gesture of opposition, no matter how small, when we become aware of it?

Why do religionists only "do good" if they think it is going to help them avoid punishment or gain reward?

It doesn't. But part of being a moral human being means having concern for others. The oppression of Muslim women does not affect me but that doesn't mean I don't have a moral duty to do something about that.

I'm hot homeless. It doesn't mean I shouldn't care about homelessness.
@QE2 tears up these threads. What an articulate and intelligent person
