BTEC Extended Diploma in Civil Engineering, what's it all about?

Okay, I want to study urban town planning (or something along those lines) at university. I studied A-levels for 4 months and hated it so dropped out and I'm currently in an apprenticeship which I have nearly completed so I am looking to go back to college so I can go to uni.

What is the BTEC civil engineering about, what do you do? I cant seem to find the EdExcel specification either...

If you do/have studied this, were there any females? I am a bit worried about being the only girl studying at my college!
