What's your favourite poem?

The Indispensable Man by SW Kessinger is my friends favourite poem. A nice reminder to stay humble and not to take life too seriously.

I'm really annoyed because I've forgotten the title but it's from the son's perspective about how his dad is always waiting by the phone for his dead wife's return. The poem describes how the husband always puts his wife's slippers by the fireplace so that it's warm when she returns and how he always wears the same shirt since it was her favourite. Made me tear up the first time I read it.

The poem's not really clear cut so you have to read it several times to really understand what it's trying to say but it will make your heart ache once you get it. Made me in such a depressing mood for ages after.

Long Distance II?

OMG YAS !!! :excited: :jumphug:

Did you guys do it for English?
Such a beautiful poem

Shakespeare's love sonnets are beautiful too
Anything by Keats, although my favourite by him is 'La Belle Dame Sans Merci.' My dissertation was based upon it, amongst other works. Such a rich and beautiful poem.

Yeah I wrote an essay on it in my course hahaha, and yes, Shakespeare's poetry is beautiful. Also, despite being bleak, Wilfred Owen's poems are really good. One of my favourite poems is Her Voice by Oscar Wilde.
I only know one poem off by heart and thats not because I particularly like it but because we had to memorise it 2 years ago in English and I can't seem to forget it. It's called 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening' and its by Robert Frost.

It goes like this:-
Whose woods these are I think I know
His house is in the village though
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake

The woods are lovely dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep
And miles to go before I sleep.

I think I did it in English last year. Was this the one about the mother who died and the family members can't let go? Sorry I'm not sure
I read the title wrong

Don't even ask

I love that poem
Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Yeah same, as throughout the poem it seems as if the speaker is saying the the grief their dad still feels isn't ideal, and is too prolonged. But then they reveal at the end that they feel the same way, which makes it so poignant. :frown:
