GSofA with AAC

Hi,
I was predicted straight As at Higher when I was 15, but then had a long illness, after which my predicted grades dropped to largely Cs, and I had to drop out of a couple of subjects. I finished school with AAC. I've read the Glasgow School of Art site and, as I understand it, you can get in with fewer qualifications than stated if there are extenuating circumstances and if you have a very good portfolio. I only have a couple months to get practising - I'm a painting, mixed media, and collage person, but they seem to want more diversity - and I don't believe I so much as have a UCAS account, as I didn't plan on university at all when I left school. So, if there's any hope for me, please tell me.

Has anybody had any luck getting into the School of Art with just a portfolio and a sob story?
