PETA: Pokémon Go akin to animal cruelty.

This is astonishing.

PETA has done a fantastic job on raising global awareness of animal abuse and cruelty, but this is taking it a step too far.

Pokémon Go isn't real, it's an app dedicated to entertainment, and has brought a community together.

Yet another case of word/expression misuse, much like what has happened to 'hate crime', 'Islamophobia', 'sexism', 'racism', etc...

What are they going to do if people show up to PETA HQ and ignore the posters? Arrest them for animal abuse?

PETA should be ashamed of themselves for stooping so low.

Hardly surprising.

I always felt there were slight colonialist undertones with the show and game but that's just me :flute:

This isn't the first time PETA has compared Pokémon to animal cruelty. They had a weird game once called Pokémon Black and Blue that broke copyright laws and used Pokémon characters. They made Ash seem like a lion tamer or something, and showed Pokémon all bruised and bloody from being forced to fight.

I'm not sure why you're surprised by this, PETA has been well known for many years as being a bunch of animal rights fanatic nutbars.

This also isn't the first time they've criticised Pokemon.

If anything this latest PETA news is quite tame by their standards.
