Someone correct me if am wrong but
Why do people like to say everyone can get A* yet someone clearly knows their ability that they can't. Don't get me wrong am not trying to discourage anyone but am just confused

I've never heard anyone say that, obviously not everyone will work at the standard required for A* grades as everyone learns and works differently
Because telling a student that they are destined for mediocrity does wonders for their confidence.
