Does anyone know if Aberdeen are usually quite quick to reply? I've had a look on last year's thread and saw people started getting interview invites on Monday 9th November - think we could start hearing back next week?

I'd be surprised if Aberdeen gave out interviews this early. But Bristol have started so who knows.

Personally, I think Aberdeen would invite us LATE November or EARLY December

Hi, wow so final year, good luck! Any idea where you want to specialise?

Just a few questions. Did you find the distance between the medical school and home quite jarring or difficult? I live in Brighton so Aberdeen is quite literally almost the other end of the UK for me

Also, I know Aberdeen doesn't do cadeveric dissection, but did you feel you were able to learn anatomy fully with prosections and other methods?

Lastly, it's a long way off but I'm interested in the idea of the 'remote and rural' elective, did you or anyone you know take this and do you have any opinions on it, in comparison to normal teaching in city based hospitals?

Thank you

Sounds like you've done research which is a really good thing!

The distance was an issue for me in the beggining but time goes very quickly and its well worth it! The medschool here is really very good and the hospitals are right next to it so you're out on ward attachments from literally year! When you start flying back and forth, brighton hopefully won't seem too far!

In terms of anatomy - some students found prosection methods useful - but generally we thought it wasnt the best way of teaching and theyve been working to modify the methods every year. They're trying but you'll still have to learn alot yourself! There is also Peer-assisted learning society (PALS) who organise for the senior years to help teach early year students, and there are alot of surgical society Ogston courses that can help throughout the years. Anatomy is only assessed for years 1-3.

Yep lots of people have even done remote and rural for all of year 4, some in year 5 and some just for your elective. I did a block in Inverness in year 4 which was stunning and a great experience. You'll have lots of opportunities and they set up lectures to introduce you to the concept and how it all works! You get more 1 to 1 teaching but at the same time if you settle in on a good ward in aberdeen you can get a really good experience from city hospitals too, so it goes both ways.

Overall best of luck with wherever you go!
Just to add to thoughts on anatomy:
Personally I think prosection is a better way of learning than dissection. The body parts are there and the parts you are meant to see are pre-cut for you, and pins etc clearly mark what you are supposed to be looking at. Whereas with dissection, hours are spent cutting through fat tissue etc just to get to the nerve for example you're trying to see and if you damage that structure while you're cutting then that's a bit of a disaster.
If you are keen for dissection there is the option for it in 3rd year during the 6 week humanities block, and there is also the option to intercalate in anatomy where dissection is part of the course
From last years thread I learnt that they sent out interviews around this time last year. Does anyone have any idea around what time they'll send out interviews this year?? (In case you contacted the Med school or went for the open house)

Interviews can take place any time from November to February. I'm not sure the university will disclose the specific dates for them unfortunately
