I loved Brian Lara when I was growing up. Beautiful to watch.

I can even give you my all time test team (not that anyone asked!):

Gavaskar
Richards, V
Bradman
Tendulkar
Lara
Sobers
Khan, I
Gilchrist
Akram, W
Marshall
Warne

I haven't had the pleasure of witnessing Bradman, Hobbs et al first hand, so I'll base mine on my lifetime of watching cricket (1990 onwards, basically).

Smith/Hayden/Cook (honestly can't split them), Sehwag, Sangakkara, Kallis, Tendulkar, Lara, Gilchrist (wk), Warne, Akram, McGrath, Muralithiran.

12th man: Waugh, Ambrose or Donald.
Right now:
1. AB de Villiers
2. Joe Root
3. Hashim Amla
4. VIrat Kohli
5. Alistair Cook
6. Kane Williamson
7. Steven Smith
8. Younis Khan
9. Misbah Ul-Haq
10. David Warner

Seems like there isn't much disagreement between the top ten, which is perhaps unsurprising.

Pretty good for a 90s onwards team. But no Shaun Pollock :frown:. Maybe lacking depth in the pace attack (I never rated Kallis' bowling that highly). I guess conditions would dictate whether two spinners were needed (and Murali is a dirty chucker )

Good point about pace attack. Not sure how successful this team would be in England or Australia, but they'd win far more often than they'd lose on subcontinent tracks.

You've inspired me to try to produce a team of a similar era to combat them:

Hayden (assuming you don't have him), Mark Taylor, Ponting, S Waugh, Inzamam ul-Haq, Dravid, Dhoni (wk), Pollock, Kumble, Ambrose, Donald

I think they'd give you a close game but your spinners may provide the edge.

I think your top order is definitely inferior to mine, but like you say, the attacks would make sure it is a close game.

There are 3 format in total in cricket. You should be specified which format batsman would you like to know. Thanks!
