last time i was in the coven the manager saw me taking paracetamol and said "thats not pills is it?" but i got the feeling he would have only asked me to shae if they had been LOL

my dad knows the manager actually, from going to the coven before it was refurbished back in the 80s. he said back then, after clubbing, there wasn't a proper kebab van in oxford - so they used to get their kebabs from a long car (parked outside the ashmoleon for those who know oxford) that heated the food up in bowls of hot water, dodgy or what?!
.... sorry tangent

NeverMindThat - which particular djs are u talking about? and are u talking about djs associated with baraka or the coven itself?

baraka yeah

Of course drugs are very present at university. I know quite a few people who smoke weed, you just have to be careful not to get caught. Pills etc. are available if you know the right people and can afford it. I haven't encountered any peer pressure though, people at uni seem to be more mature and don't pressure people into doing drugs if they don't want to.

Pills are probably the cheapest and most cost effective drugs out there lol.

If you cant afford 2.50 for 3 hours enjoyment, I dont know what you can afford.
The only problem I've had with drugs at uni was when my best friend took MDMA and dropped my camera and broke it!

Really, no one will try and make you take drugs. And if they do, there are plenty of other people to socialise with.

On a more serious note, the kind of drugs you want to watch out for are the date rape/drink spiking variety. I've never come into contact with this at uni or anywhere else, but just be sensible. Try to drink from bottles as much as possible, as these are harder to spike, and don't let your drink out of your sight. If you need to go to the loo or something, either finish it first or give it to a close friend to look after. If you have left your drink unattended, it's probably safer just not to finish it. And if you suddenly feel unwell, or much more drunk than you think you should be, tell someone.

my dad warned me of this... i replied "eyyy, free drugs mate!" lol - i AM joking but you had to see the look on his face

seriously though, GHB aka date rape is one of the funnest drugs i;ve ever tried (NOT mixed with booze). big difference between chosing to take it in a safe environment and having it slipped into your drink by a sleezy dude though!
you're right - be careful
but not so careful you risk risking fun

Well?
That'd be a type of porn I haven't seen.
Regarding the thread title question, no I dont think drugs are a problem.

I think a few drugs shouldnt even be illegal, such as Cocaine and Cannabis. I have never touched them myself, but then I don't smoke and rarely drink either, so why would I suddenly have ever started doing drugs?

If someone wants to do drugs, then that's their prerrogative. It's their life, and as long as it doesn't inconvinience me, then sobeit.

I can agree with you on Cannabis but why the heck would you make Cocaine legal?

So many people do it as a social drug, I can't see why the Police would want the paperwork. It is a pointless drug, IMO - but cigarettes and some kinds of alcohol do more damage with frequent usage.

It's Class A for a reason though. If they were gonna legalise anything I'd say Cannabis and maybe Ecstasy if I had to choose something else. Cocaine causes way too much harm and is too addictive. I don't think the police make laws based on how much paperwork they'll have to do :p:

I think the best argument for legalising cocaine, bar the civil liberties one, is that it is the only thing that will destroy the gangs that control the illegal cocaine trade - which fuels gang warfare, worker exploitation, poverty and paramilitary forces far more than any other drug trade.

Yeah, I agree with that and something definitely needs to be done about all those problems. The only problem is if you legalise cocaine then you'd have to legalise heroin and all the other drugs too which would cause massive backlash and I can't ever imagine heroin being legal. I'm not sure what the answer is but I think we need to find one soon.

Yeah the critical assumption that people make is that keeping it illegal stops people from taking these things - it doesn't, all it does is make the problems they cause far harder to solve. Treating drug addicts as criminals does nothing to help society, it just drives them further into the criminal subculture, compounding both the damage the drugs do to them, and consequently the damage that they do to society.

We need a medical, not criminal based approach to combating addiction, and that can only be done with government support, which is impossible given the current legal status. Also, the legal status of drugs inhibits research into them - if you think that Cannabis was made illegal in this country in 1928, unquestionably before we had any understanding of its neurological effects at all. Consequently all subsequent research has taken place with it being illegal, making scientific objectivity difficult.

There's no common sense in the issue at all. :frown:
You seem to actually have your head screwed on right so I'm gonna rep you for that post when I can
