How easy is it to buy a door lock and fit it myself?

My parents seem to trapse in and out of my room as they please, it's really starting to irritate me. It's not as if I'm doing anything out of the ordinary when they barge in, but it's the fact they do it, and that you never know when I might be!

How easy is it to get a hold of a door lock, and more importantly, fit it myself!? If I bring it up with them I'll get some kind of lecture and in the end they won't fit one for me.

And it would rather amuse me to see them try and walk in and not be able to and then hear "Urrr... there seems to be something wrong with the door!" on the other side :smile:

Door locks are very tricky to fit if the door doesnt already have the hole carved out of it!

A bolt on the other hand is very simple to fit - 4 screws on the bolt, 2 on the bit that it goes in to.

if theres an existing handle it can be easy. different locks will need further cuttings but some dont. whats on your door at the moment?
as said you could just get a bolt/chain
