Keane would be a great partner for Torres. But 18mil? :/
18m for a 28yr old is a bit high but hes got into double figures every single season at Spurs in the league and thats got to be a good sign. If the rumours are true then we would probably have no money left for barry. i would take keane anyday over barry purely because we have Alonso who is much better.

He'll be at the University of Liverpool today for his medical apparently. I've got it on good info that he was at a hotel in town last night.
Rafinha Back On Liverpool Radar
Brazilian fullback Rafinha is once again being linked with a possible transfer to Premier League side Liverpool.

He has long been linked with a move to the Merseyside giants with Reds boss Rafa Benitez a confirmed admirer of the Schalke right back.

With Alvaro Arbeloa being linked with a move back to Spain following a mystery £6 million bid, money could well be available for the purchase of Rafinha.

The Brazilian is also in dispute with his club at the moment over the Olympics, and his future at the Bundesliga club is far for certain.

He was called up by coach Carlos Dunga for the summer’s Olympic tournament, but was told by Schalke he couldn’t go. However, Rafinha has gone against the club’s wishes and travelled regardless.

Any parting of the ways at the Veltins Arena will surely awake the interest of Liverpool amongst others.

Hmm he's been a Rafa target for a while but i guess Rafa settled for 2nd choice Degen. Might not be too bad if Arbeloa has to leave (wish we couldve kept him though!)
Liverpool are understood to be closing on the capture of Tottenham striker Robbie Keane for a fee that could rise to £20million.

The Reds have been tracking the Republic of Ireland international's services for most of the summer and now appear set to get their man.

Keane is believed to have undergone a medical and could even fly to Spain and join his new team-mates as early as Tuesday ahead of their friendly against Villarreal.

Liverpool concluded a deal for the former Leeds United ace with Spurs at the weekend. The final figure could rise as high as £20million including add-ons.
Upset

Keane's imminent departure is unlikely to go down well with Spurs fans after stating in May that he would continue to play for the White Hart Lane outfit until he was no longer wanted.

Rafa Benitez's desire to bolster his strike forced increased earlier this month following the departure of England international Peter Crouch to former club Portsmouth.

Keane is expected to pen a lucrative five-year £80,000-a-week contract at Anfield.

Hmm im guessing the initial payment will be like £17mil and then add-ons, thats not too bad me thinks..
80k a week is a bit  and a 5 year contract for a 28 year old? Jeez..

Precisely.

Surely Villa would have been better? More value for money....Ramos is getting the better deal i think. Keane will not fit in the new system they play.

Mmm I think Villa would cost £30mil+ to buy, just because he's more sort after and other clubs such as Real Madrid are after him.
People keep going on about Villa/Torres combo not being as good as Torres/Keane combo potentially too.
Im guessing Villa will command 100k+ in wages though, no doubt Valencia pay him very well and other clubs would too...
I dont think Ramos could drop Keane either though.. very intelligent player and is basically the vice-captain (and captained a lot in the absence of King).

Latest from Tony Barrett

ROBBIE KEANE today completed his medical - edging the striker ever closer to sealing a £20m move to Anfield.

The Irish international arrived in Liverpool last night and was booked in for a series of tests at a Merseyside hospital.

A fee of £18m with add ons of up to £2m has been agreed with Spurs and terms have been agreed with the player.

Liverpool had been looking to tie up the deal early last week but the transfer was held up as Tottenham looked to find a replacement for the White Hart Lane crowd favourite.

Keane, a boyhood Liverpool fan, is desperate to complete the move and once the formalities of the medical are completed the 28-year-old striker should get his wish.

Though Keane’s arrival would make him the second most expensive player ever signed by Liverpool – only Fernando Torres has cost more – it will not stop Rafa Benitez from pursuing his interest in Gareth Barry.

Despite suggestions from Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill that Liverpool are losing interest in the England midfielder, Benitez’s interest in Barry has never wavered.

O’Neill, who is demanding around £20m for Barry, said: “Having not heard from Liverpool for some time it is clear that we value him more than they do.

“We obviously don’t want him to go, so the price we are asking for him is a fair and realistic one for a player who is so good. In fact, I think it is really cheap.

“My own view is that he should hang around for another year and see if we can make further progress.”

Benitez’s desire to snare Barry hasn’t lessened one bit, however, and the Reds boss is determined to do everything in his power to ensure he ends up at Anfield.

But in the absence of any acceptable offers being made for Xabi Alonso, it is highly unlikely that Liverpool’s American owners will loosen the purse strings to allow Benitez to splash the cash on Barry.

That is likely to mean the wheeling and dealing will continue at Anfield to bring in the funds needed to stand a chance of signing the Villa man.

Meanwhile, Philipp Degen is set to undergo minor surgery on a groin injury and is likely to be ruled out for a fortnight.

Steven Gerrard has returned to full training after a short spell on the sidelines, however. The Reds skipper is expected to join his team mates on the trip to Spain for Wednesday night’s friendly against Villarreal.
why buy Keane if you intend to play him on the wing though?
Surely if it was a winger you wanted you'd have...bought a winger.

I reckon even if Rafa starts with that he'll change it after a bit when it doesn't work very well
Regardless of formation...
Reina, Mascherano, Gerrard and Torres seem the only definite starters for every game.
Dossena has competition with Aurelio but I hope one settles quicker and we stick with them. Likewise at rightback I think we will see Carra/Degen/Finnan if he's still here/Rafina if we buy him.
In the centre, I think we will mainly see Carra/Agger partnership but Agger hasnt played for a year and Srktel only has half a seasons worth of experience.
Alonso should start a lot of games if his form picks up otherwise our formation may change or Lucas could come in...
Babel might still play super-sub until he gets more consistent and improves his decision making so we will see him and Kuyt exchange a lot i think...
If Keane is scoring, he will be playing but I wont be surprised to see Rafa go with a more defensive attack force (Kuyt or Benayoun playing instead) though it could just be Babel who gives way for Keane otherwise.

I really do hope that Rafa picks a first XI and just gives them 5 or 6 games to play and then change bits..

In Rafa's system not in Spurs.

They play 1 up front anf Berba and Bent can do that very very well.

Keane is a great player and will be a great signing no doubt.
