NHS jobs website doesn't routinely ask for a cover letter. What are you applying via?

It’s the supporting information section, I’m assuming it’s pretty much just a cover letter with the addition of the info from the job description/person specification

You need to pull out bits of your experience to match the job specification. Some job specs even say what aspects they're looking for in interview and/or application.
