Got Offered A Job As An Associate Practitioner - Next Stage In Career Opportunities?

Hey Guys;

The day before yesterday, I got offered a job as a NHS Band 4 Associate Practitioner (officially takes hold as of Wednesday, 16th June as that's when my contract is due to start). I do however have another interview coming up later today (Trainee Biomedical Scientist).

I am curious if at all possible what direction this could take me in the future (link to job I was accepted for: https://beta.jobs.nhs.uk/candidate/jobadvert/C9193-21-5936).

My degree is in Biomedical Science, I do however have a history in teaching (done a PGCE in Secondary Science for half a year before dropping out, however I have used transferable skills in my application for this job as it does involve a degree of training others such as Medical Lab Assistants and students). I hope to one day become part of the HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) as it is a requirement for a Biomedical Scientist position but want to keep growing as I'll admit, the job I'd just left was really limited to what I could have done, hence why so eager for the job I got offered and the one I'm now applying for (trainee BMS).

The job I had just left was a Medical Lab Assistant (Band 2) and was employed by the same hospital for 3 months prior to obtaining this position.

Would appreciate any help you can give guys, cheers. =)

Well if you want to be a HCPC registered biomedical scientist, then the trainee position is the best next step, as after you complete this you will be a Band 5 BMS. After being a registered BMS at Band 5, you can further develop to being a specialist BMS by completing the specialist portfolio, which is generally required to become a Band 6 Specialist BMS (not sure if you knew all this before but thought I’d say anyway just in case)

I can’t really comment on the AP job and where that will take you though, sorry.

Congratulations on the AP job though, and I hope the interview went well! Sorry for the late reply!

Essentially I got asked the basics of my area of expertise, in that case, PCR. So look into the theory of your field where they could answer confidently. (Although from experience I actually got turned down for an AP post for answering the questions too well which was a bit of a shock!)

I also got asked basic questions such as if I saw workplace bullying, whom would I go to to report it?

There is a patient who is lost and doesn’t know where to go, you are also running late for an important meeting. What do you do?

Basic cleaning questions as well.

To be honest, it’s like an MLA post but you are expected to know the theory of the role you will be working in.

GOOD LUCK!
Hello, sorry I am new to this but I have an interview for an associate practitioner in biochemistry and I am so nervous for the interview, does anyone have any tips or remember the types of questions? I’ve been told it’ll be standard questions plus technical assessment (demonstrating practical knowledge/skills). I’m trying to prepare as much as possible but there’s so much!
