i don't know about that, but there is aways the herald of free enterprising disaster, bhopal, pretty much anything about sweatshops, etc...

Do you know what the term 'blue collar crime' refers to?

Isn't that just the idea of working class crime, petty theft from work place maybe? (blue collar - factory worker, white collar - office workers)

I actually think i would b lost without this thread!! its nice to get help from others from different schools/teachers! if only we could collectively do the exam!

yeah, i know, its helped me to know which parts i need to revise, etc...

Thank you for all your help people!
What about the synoptic methods question how is everyone intending to answer that cause I'm kind of stumped for that one, apart from statistics I don't really know what else to write =\

Yea!! you are definately right with that...and we also disccussed that in class about asians having tight family bonds..but obviously 'asians' is a massive label. So note to any1 if they write asians be a bit more specific!
I know what you mean about the asian crime. in my revision book it just says Arrests - Asians: 2.7% of population but 4.4% of arrests...so im also rather stumped on that!!

Also in another box, just about Asians and crime it states
Bowling and phillips (2001) review of local studies of crime among british asians:
-> 1980s studies found low rate of crime among asians, e.g. Mawby and Batta's (1980) Bradford study; most asians poor. would thus expect high crime rate, but emphasis on izzat (family honour) ensuresd conformism -> kept crime rate low.

-> 1990s/2000s studies: evidence some young asian males consciously portraying image of toughness. also more willing to use violence to defend selves/communities against race attack

-> But Alexander (2000) study of south london: found media exaggerated 'Asian gangs' problem. in reality, little violence

Not sure if you've solved this already, but in my notes I have that Bowling & Phillips looked at Asian crime & the recent growth, stating that previously it had been seen as low due to integration and Mawba & Batta saw the element of 'izzat' or family values as key to this low crime, because they didnt want to go against the family. However, more recently Desai notes that Asians are leaving that behind and going against family values as they are socialised more into western culture. Bowling & Phillips also look at the image of the 'Benglai Bad Boy'.
Against all of this though, is Alexander who says that Asain crime isnt actually rising, but it is a moral panic starting since 9/11, exaggerated by the media.
hope that can helpp xxx

within stats include durkheim's suicide. Then there is victimisation studies, self-report studies, participant observation and informal interviews.

Oh yeah of course! I could use BCS for that? And for PO I sort of have an idea of what to write. Would it just be why its useful to study C&D, dangers (Patrick), Hawthorne effect (becoming deviant yourself) etc.? I just it's been so long since I learnt methods! We didnt learn it again in theory and methods as we just focused on the theory side so I'm kind of all over the place with it =\

Half 11? Are they allowed to change the times?

Half 11? Are they allowed to change the times?

I'm not sure, but theyre not allowed any contact with anyone, it's only because they have an exam clash so have to start earlier. Or they could do the exam the next day but they would of had to stay overnight at an examiners house with no contact to the outside world!
The only problem is they'll be finished at 1 but the rest of us will only just be starting then and because theyre not allowed to leave the room they have to stay until we're finished.

maybe they have exam clashes and are in isolation? i had that for my ict module 4 and sociology unit 4 last week

had to sit the ict paper first at 9.00 when the nation would have taken it at 1.00.. at 1.00 i sat the unit 4 sociology exam

Haha I know! So awkward, imagine you're not allowed to use a computer or a phone, you'd have no choice but to talk to them the whole time lol
