The Premed Useful Book Thread

I saw questions about books useful for premeds scattered about previously, so I'd thought I'd create a thread. I will try and keep an updated list in the OP about the most useful books.

UKCAT

BMAT

Those three are the recognized ones, I think. There may be others too.

I'd also suggest the following book for giving you an insight into medical ethics; which will presumably help you in your interview to formulate your own, educated answers to ethics questions:

It's only £7 and it's pretty darn useful, in my opinion.

Not 'useful' as per say - but a good insight into medicine and quite funny.

For the The Insiders' Guide to UK Medical Schools 2007/2008, does anybody know when a 2009/2010 version will be published?

don't buy that book. i have it, all it has is just every uni prospectus' compacted into book-form. so it's pointless because a) you could have saved the money by doing some free research and b) it covers all the universities and for people who already know where they'd like to go, they'd only find about 20 pages useful in the whole book.

Does anyone happen to know whether the questions in the 2009 edition of the 'Passing the UK clinical aptitude test and BMAT' are the same as the ones in the 2008 edition?

Probably. I don't think anything significant changes in the UKCAT/BMAT from year to year, apart from the questions they use.

The Rise and Fall of Modern Medicine by James LeFanu

It runs through some important points in medical history and is just an interesting read. I guess it'd be good background reading.

A book that is rated highly for medical interviews. I'll probably see if I can read it in a library though as it is a tad expensive.
