hey,
i was wondering if the top 5 uni's perfer students with "work exp", ie- is it absolutely imperative to have in order to gain acceptance? because where I live, there's not much scope for internships/work exp. for high school students.
I do have plenty of extra-curriculars though, would that suffice?
please help!

No work experience needed, so don't worry. Economics is not finance, and although it can be helpful if you can relate your work experience to economics, you are not expected to have it. I live somewhere where there is hardly any scope for work experience too, the local economy is a post office and hairdressers in the village I live in.
I want to know how, step by step, to refer to a book in your PS..

For example,

Name, by Author. What its about. What I have learned. What I think.

Something like that?

PLEASE HELP MEE :'(

Say name of book, then author and then to quote the first post:

i) stating the idea (1 or 2 sentences)
ii) giving your reaction: feelings and thoughts (1 or 2 sentences)
Another format would be:
i) give a common sense idea (or old economic) idea
ii) give an economic (or new economic) idea
iii)Give your reaction.

I'm applying for economics and was wondering if it would be too critical of me to mention in my PS, that I think the BoE aren't trying hard enough to fix the recession and I gave a valid reason why.

What do you guys think?

I think if you were able to properly explain why you have that viewpoint then it certainly would be fine to put in. Just make sure you explain why to ensure it's not just a normative statement.

Hi. So if you recommend I don't mention my A-Level subjects, how can I clearly get across the idea that I am strong mathematically without an explicit reference. My teacher told me it was worth mentioning that Maths and Physics will help me when it comes to the more mathematical approach to Economics at degree level

Depends on the person. What skills did YOU develop?

Does not sound great to me:
i) you want to avoid writing an economics essay
ii) a PS should primarily be about you not the BoE.
iii) Not sure you will be able in a few sentences to make your case properly.

Would saying that I read the Financial Times (which is true) and say that I worked in an investment firm and learn loads of finance related stuff be appropriate for a Bsc Econ?
I mean, it's all true, but will it hurt?
I'm also focusing on my interest on political economy. Is it bad for my PS?

Sounds very cliched.

Not an issue in itself. But execution is everything.

Nope.
