Swansea Bay Campus - is it far from anything?

I'm thinking of applying to Swansea to study Mechanical Engineering, but it is on Bay Campus, and I'm a bit concerned that it might be very far from everything on Singleton campus. Am I right to worry?

Hi @TimJK!
Not to worry! The city centre is kind of the halfway mark between Bay and Singleton campuses, so it will be easy for students to commute to the city centre for amenities, socialising, or anything else you may need or want to do
In terms of transport, the university has regular buses that run between the 2 campuses, stopping at the city centre. For information about these buses, please visit here.
I hope this helps! If you've got any further questions, feel free to message us again

Thanks. But is there any social life at all on the Bay campus or does it just close in the evening? Are there any bars or cafes where I could meet people? I hear most clubs are based on the other campus, so would I have to go back and forth? Oh, and what time are the last buses to and from the other campus? (I presume the bus from the other campus is the same one that I'd used to get from the city centre?)
Oh and I have to ask: there were a few reviews from a few years ago that said the facilities on Bay were very poor, and there was loud construction every where. Has that been rectified?

The Bay Campus only opened in 2015. It opened with the Engineering and Business Schools and 500 rooms. It has been expanded and that is why there was so much building work. New buildings have opened for more parts of Engineering, The Computational Foundry for Maths and Computer Science, The College mainly for overseas students and a building housing lecture rooms and students union. In addition a further 1500 rooms have been built there. That is why you have been reading reports of being like a building site. Most of what is built is as it will be but there is planning permission for more rooms should they be required.

Currently the Bay Campus has 2000 rooms, Singleton 1200 rooms and the Student Village 1200 rooms. Many students have been staying there and travelling across to Singleton for subjects there. The Bay campus has its own bank, pub, gym and its own courts. The main sports facilities including swimming pool, athletics track and sports fields are close to Singleton campus which als has its own bar and nightclub. They are roughly equidistance away from the city centre. Most students will head for Wind Street when things will be open from both campuses.

Prior to this year there were a number of different bus routes linking the campuses. There are also a number of buses outside the campus going to the city centre. The quickest bus between campuses took 20 minutes but got withdrawn for this year. Whether it will be reinstated next year I suspect no one knows.

Currently the quickest inter campus bus takes 30 minutes going past the railway station and through the city centre. The buses used to run through the night on Mondays to Fridays and until 3am on Saturdays although that has changed this year. What the situation will be next year nobody knows.
